Zune was the 2nd music player I ever had, the first was this little dinky thing that came pre-loaded with the music video for All Around Me by Flyleaf

I did this one time during a messy breakup where I was being over-dramatic. We were moving everything out of the apt, and she wanted to keep my Bose iPod sound-dock, and I was all like "I don't even care if you take the Bose sound dock!!!"

As soon as I got out to my car I realized that I definitely did care if she took the Bose. Immediate regret. I loved that damn thing. Never owned another one since.

iPods worked fine just think they had terrible UI

  10. By terrible do we mean “one of the best ever made”? Cause... that’s one of the best UI’s of all time. Instantly usable by almost anyone in the world. A truly game changing device that revolutionized the personal electronics industry.

I'm only 90% sure I even know what UI means, but if it means what I think it means, I would say iPods could be a case study in making one of the best ever.

I just took a glamour shot of my actual iPod with my dog Nell out of focus in the background before I realized I have no idea how to upload or post it here.

I'll give you that it may not be the sexiest looking device, but I have always loved the interface. I never liked touch-screen.

  14. It was gorgeous and revolutionary. From iconography to type ... truly one of the best.

    "gorgeous".
    I mean I disagree, that's fine.

  16. Gorgeous. For what you can do with that screen and device, truly incredible they got it to work at all (look at all those that failed miserably) and they ended up making the best selling consumer electronic device of all time (at the time). And their hardware and software combination is why. Playing music quickly and navigating millions of songs ... there’s a reason this UI is taught in case studies. No one had cracked it until they did. It’s brilliant.

considering the year and what typical electronic devices at the time looked like...yeah this was pretty gorgeous comparatively. obviously you just post a screenshot of it in 2019 and it looks like garbage because we have almost two decades of updates to the formula.

you're still talking about user experience, the functionality and flow. That's not what I was addressing.

They’re intertwined. The incredible UI works with the revolutionary UX. Without both, it fails.

And again, the type and iconography and spacing, on that screen and power of a device: truly incredible. That Chicago font alone, is next level good.

So many people tried to copy it, the Nomad for example, and couldn’t get close.

Macbook, Iphone, and Ipad could be separate companies maybe, but there's def overlap which makes it tough
