For more context, it is literally my job to research and measure PR for companies so while I love Taylor, this rollout could have been more successful in my professional opinion. She is too focused on a perfectly crafted image to do anything new and exciting. I would actually love to study her and apply our research methods to get more insight.

 

What's your thoughts on the reputation rollout with zero PR, was that in turn great PR?

 

I think it was less abt PR and more that she felt like she had egg on her face and didn’t want to talk to anyone. BUT I also think it proved her true power in the industry- record first week sales with absolutely zero effort. I think that and the tour got her the blank check from UMG. Very few artists could have pulled off what she did with Rep. the rollout was still too long though. I think a surprise drop Taylor album would truly shatter expectations and records.

She’s kind of shooting herself in the foot now though, because she keeps bringing up Kimye in interviews since she never got to talk about it, which doesn’t jive with “there will be no further explanation” OR “I’m so happy now that I’m private and dating Joe.” People look for excuses to hate on her and sometimes she serves them up on a platter.

She runs the risk of mid-Red era public disdain if she doesn’t iron out what she wants to present as an image. It seems like she wants to be seen as progressive, but can’t quite bring herself to give up those paying republican fans by alienating them entirely. I’m pretty sure her politics will stay within the realm of sexism, gay rights, and artist’s owning their music, which is fine by me, but could be misconstrued as self-serving by people who are always cynical about her.

 

Is there any chance Cruel Summer is a Kanye thing or is that just coincidental titling

or maybe it's an ace of base reference

 

my main problem with the Kim thing is it's hard for me to give a shit that one woman worth 1/3 of a billion dollars feels like another woman worth 1/3 of a billion dollars was mean to her

 

Haven't listened to any songs since calm down cause I want as many new songs as possible on first listen of the album but it's fun reading ppls reactions when I haven't heard it yet!

 

I just read the last few pages. I will own that when it comes to releases I turn into like a fourteen year old edgelord boy on Reddit. If an artist has multiple copies of the same album that are each slightly different I refuse to buy any of them. Like the cheap baby boomer jumps out. Like u want me to buy 4 ok well how about ZERO!!!

Listening to Lover and wow is this single good. I can't wait for this album.

 

it's kinda crazy to me how the song reactions for this album remind me EXACTLY of the reactions leading up to reputation

LWYMMD & ME! - Both got huge reactions, as shock singles really, and were really divisive. Got people talking, really put a stake in what this new era might look like.

Ready For It & You Need To Calm Down - Reinforce the vibe and the direction of the lead single, MANY fans decide after the first two songs that the album is looking worrysome, that she might have lost something, lots of talk about the album possibly not being good

Gorgeous & The Archer - oh wait, now THIS is a song that the fanbase is into, both are "promo" singles and feel like they are a bit of fan service to say "hey, don't worry, this album isn't all big and abrasive like the first two singles," people get optimistic

Call It What You Want & Lover - OK now everyone is on board, super excited for the album again, etc etc etc

 

Look What You Made Me Do is still her best lead single of all time.

Been trying to decide what “Lover” reminds me of all week and I think it’s “I Never” by Rilo Kiley.

 

I was at Target on Friday night & didn't see any displays but they were playing YNTCD which was nice.
