I've seen Brand New many times but the Red Rocks and KC shows have really stuck with me. I'm very happy I got to see Limo twice, even though it was basically ruined at the KC show by some jackasses who kept trying to get people to crowd surf. I'm still extremely pissed about them. I thought the band sounded great and looked like they were having a lot of fun playing. Play Cracks The Sky was a great way to start the encore and I had tears through pretty much the whole thing. It was my first and second times seeing Modest Mouse after many failed attempts. I had heard bad things about their shows but I was very satisfied with the two shows I saw, even though many were upset with the Red Rocks stop.

I really hope Brand New tours around here again before their departure but I am more than happy with what I got if these were the times I get to see them.

Fun reading all these comments about the shows on this tour. I really hope to see them one more time before they go and with more new material in the set of course! Its not if but when I like to think. Also Modest Mouse is def on my list of bands i still need to see live.

Considering both of you went to Red Rocks and KC, which show did you think was the better one overall? I strongly considered going to both, but decided not to since I worked at 6am on Saturday and didn't have the PTO to use for both trips. KC seemed to get the better Modest Mouse setlist.

I haven't really had a chance to compile or share my thoughts since getting back last week. Getting to see two bands I love share the stage at Red Rocks--with Brand New getting the advantage of darkness this time around--was something I'll never forget. Although I had read reports of Brand New seeming less than enthused, bored and tired at the SLC show, I didn't get that feeling at all at Red Rocks. Jesse and Vin were going OFF in particular. Something I really appreciated about the show was the fact that Red Rocks doesn't have a pit. Instead, you were given the freedom to not have to watch out for crowd surfers or people pushing and shoving and could just take in the whole show. The crowd in general seemed to be completely into it and not detract from it at all. If anything, they added to it for once. The sound, setting, lights and performance were on whole other levels from past Brand New shows I've seen, too. You could tell this was a special show for the group before Jesse said as much during the encore. I hope they decide to release the soundboard audio for the show in the future.

They both had their advantages. Red Rocks was great for exactly the reason you mentioned. The no-pit allows fans to focus on the show instead of people being thrown around. I think Jesse had more energy in Denver because he was jumping around like crazy but they were all getting down both nights. I enjoyed sitting back and watching in Colorado but getting up close and personal for the KC show was a big highlight. I've been front row a lot with Brand New but this one had a different feeling. Maybe the thought of it actually being finite added to the experience but that show seemed to have something that others have lacked.

Modest Mouse's set was definitely better in KC but opening with Dramamine to me was probably the coolest part of their two shows. I've had Grey Ice Water stuck in my head since Friday though so that's close too. I think the crowd was more into MM in KC than CO and the band really fed off that so it was easier to get into it. I think Modest Mouse was good in CO but they were fantastic in KC.

Red Rocks was perfect with the scenery and the lightning in the background. I feel very lucky to have seen this show at Red Rocks and I will never forget the experience. Kansas City originally seemed like a bonus to an unbeatable trip and I had a feeling I wouldn't appreciate it as much as Red Rocks but now looking back I think they both ranked equally. If the Denver show was at any other venue I would have to chose the KC show though.

blessed be the lost at sea

I lost my shit when Modest Mouse opened with Bury Me With It. Like on the way there I had my music on and that came up, and I told my sister about how that was the song that got me into them, it's probably my favorite Modest Mouse song, but they hadn't played it in a while and probably wouldn't.

Then as soon as he started playing the intro I just lost it, lol.

I can't complain at all. It was one of the best nights of my life. The only realistic thing I would've expected that could make it better would be if Modest Mouse played Missed the Boat and Brand New played SoCo. But I got to see Play Crack the Sky, which was probably the most important thing for me.

Sounds like I should've made the drive and called in sick. Damn. I would've been slightly disappointed that Brand New didn't mix anything up, but that Modest Mouse set is hard to argue with.

As for proximity, I will say our group lucked out on being in the 4th row between Jesse and Vin at Red Rocks. Doesn't get much better than that. Having the video screen turned off only added to the ambiance of the show, especially during the quiet parts. That Luca bomb was one of, if not the best ones I've gotten to experience.

Has Brand New had any show specific posters with them on this tour or just the regular MM/BN tour poster?

So very jealous of this. Chicago's night was awesome but that would have just completed things for me. I've only seen them play it once. (10/09 at the Aragon)

The regular orange and blue Mm/Bn poster is for sale at the merch table though it doesn't have the tour dates like the one posted online- it just says Summer 2016 on the print

and there is a seperate Mm tour poster with a strawberry I think that didn't have the dates either

Easily one of the highlights of my life. Like it sounds stupid trying to explain it to other people, haha. That song just means so much to me, and it was an incredible performance, and knowing I might not ever experience that again... it was so special for me. Here's hoping we both get another shot.

Missing that one sucked...but I did get to witness Say It Ain't So...that was pretty damn cool. And the sunset...I couldn't focus on the show for that few minutes because it was so gorgeous.

Last week I thought for sure he was saying "I concede" but now I think that's wrong.

I do think the first part is "race to death" but I'm very bad at this stuff haha

KD will never release his record if they are indeed waiting on BN.

I believe he hinted on Twitter to his next LP being released this Fall. So either Brand New's album comes out soon, or it doesn't come out until next year. We'll see!

When KD came through Pittsburgh in April I caught him at his merch table. He said his new album was coming out in October 2016. Release dates can always slide around the calendar, but he did say it pretty earnestly.

I saw a similar post like this on the sub saying the same thing. the post also said that KD said PMT likes to space out their releases. August release perhaps? Surprise release at the end of this month? Who knows

If it was coming out in August, it would likely have been announced by now.

  24. I hope you get to see them soon! I saw MM a few months ago and while I loved them then, I think they solidified a spot as one of my favourite bands. Just awesome live.
