if you all actually want a book club, i will make a thread for it in general!

we could do a rotation, each user picks a book, we take about a month to read it, and then discuss it in the thread on the specified "meeting" date!

also if the title of "ladies" book club is uncomfortable to anyone we could brainstorm a better name - i know not everyone maybe identifies as such.

Yes please! (my suggestion) - We should start with a Toni Morrison book.

I've actually never read any Toni Morrison so I would be thrilled with this - I went to a very weird high school so I missed out on Beloved then :(

    Yesssss okay.

Here are my thoughts before creating the thread:

    - let's try to stick to under 400 pages in a book, to account for busy schedules and slower readers.
    - I don't think the books we choose HAVE to be written by women or non-men, but it would be nice if a lot of them were :)
    - I'll update the main post every month with the member list, the book we're reading, and who picked it. (@K0ta you are more than welcome to go first!!!)
    - suggested thread title to not make it feel cis-exclusive or exclude our nonbinary users: Chorus.fm Literary Society for Non-Men (I am extra I'm sorry) (also taking other suggestions thank u)

This all sounds perfect. Didn't want to steal any thunder right out of the gate, but given how Toni Morrison passed away yesterday and our current social climate I thought it might be a good way to start!

my one thought: should we make the title something like "for people who are not cis men" to include trans guys?

Considering the entirety of this website is a safe space for cis men I think they can get over it.

It's not meant to be divisive - just to create a space for members of this community to conversate and discuss things from our point of view. Considering we hear the points of view of cis men all day long.

there will definitely be complaints. though I think we have a handful of good allies who should help if/when that happens.

hmm this is a good point. if there are queer men who want to join and be respectful of the conversations happening amongst us, i would be okay with that. we'll see if there is any interest.

  17. I think bringing sexuality into it overcomplicates things. I'm cis-het but I'm also ace. Maybe just stick to gender? Really excited for y'all tho

I also think that the initial idea to have a space for non-men is solid and that most queer men would be sympathetic to the need for such a space!

@xkhiemster thank you for being the best as always

my girlfriend's supervisor sent a message saying "You guys need to step up your service!!!" with a review complaining about how the girl cashiers have resting bitch face. Tell me I'm not in the wrong to report that shit to her manager, she's worried about losing her job if she does. that's so fucking bullshit.

edit: asking her to report him not me report.

It definitely is fucked up but unfortunately kind of normal in the service industry. As a male, I got shit from management similar to that pretty often cashiering in high school. I'd even get yelled at for slightly leaning my aching back against a pole in between customers since I'd been on my feet all day.
