I remember in 2005 I saw Green Day and was talking to someone in the concourse and this kid was maybe 16 or 17 and legit had no idea Green Day had released any albums before American Idiot. He thought they were a new band.

I was very surprised by the demographics of that show. I was 19 or 20 at the time and felt like I was one of the oldest people there.

I think that’s rad. That a band can have multiple peaks and jumping on points for people throughout a 10-20 year career speaks well of them.

 

If I home school my kid we'll have a course called Punk Rock 101. I know there's a Bowling For Soup song called that - but it works.

 

I was 11 when American Idiot came out and I honestly thought it was their first album. Then I saw they had other albums and realized when listening to International Superhits that I knew a lot of songs but didn’t know it was them. Same thing happened with Sum 41 around the same period when I listened to Chuck on repeat and thought it was their only album.

 

Yeah I was 11 or 12 when American Idiot came out but I knew it wasn't their first because I knew Good Riddance from them already. Might have been the only Green Day song I knew before AI came out though. Maaaybe When I Come Around, too.
