I was a casual fan of Alkaline Trio beforehand, but once Matt joined gave me more of a motivation to really dive into their discography.

Let's hold our breath until we disappear

I have been a huge fan of Alkaline Trio since 2003, and while I'm excited Matt has this opportunity, it really has bummed me out how inactive Alkaline Trio has become over the last 4 years.

I was always a casual fan of Alkaline Trio, but him joining blink made me take a deep dive into it. One of my favorite bands now.

blink turned me onto ALK3 in 2001 when sum 41 and alk3 were openers on the Honda Civic Tour. Smallest room I ever saw blink too, the Worcester Palladium. I have shitty photos from a disposable camera I will try to dig up.

Nah, I would say start on "From Here to Infirmary" then you could go forwards or backwards..

I know I'm a few pages late to this conversation but I'd love to start my own small cassette collection, thinking of getting that Nine one.

Ive been listening to the Trio since Infirmary so I was excited to see Matt joined Blink. I feel like he has a lot in common with the guys except that he’s not a big project/self promoter like Mark, Travis and Tom. That’s not a skill everyone has though.

I’m happy to hear that people are enjoying what Matt’s bringing to Blink (songs like Darkside and Generational Divide highlight him), and I’m pleased he didn’t have to abandon Trio to make this work (I liked Is This Thing Cursed? and yeah Trio May be taking a backseat a bit for a few reasons).

If he’s never listened he should start with their best album

But Crimson isn’t their best album ;)

Yes, that would be Good Mourning.

Crimson is a top three Trio album, without Derek Grant I don't think we would have got it.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

Crimson is fine but it's probably like my fourth or fifth favorite of theirs

FUCKIN SAVAGES IN THAT FUCKIN BOX Prestigious

I mean if someone is coming from listening to blink, Infirmary would be the ideal place to start in my opinion as far as the most accessible thing

I'm going to second this. Don't like their earlier stuff as much for some reason.

I saw Alkaline Trio in 2001 and for years after I always wondered what it would've been like if Matt and Tom traded places, so I about shit myself when blink announced he was playing with blink back in 2015.

Interesting, do you know what made you think about that? It never really crossed my mind over the years other than thinking Tom was influenced by Matt lyrically for the Untitled record.

I’ve kinda preferred preserving Matt as blink only for the time being. I’ll see if I get around to listening to any Alk3 and I’ll report back

I always looked at Trio as a darker/more goth punk sounding blink-182. It was also because they were a trio. I wasn't really listening to many trio bands back in the day aside from blink, Trio, and Green Day. Plus, Matt played a single pickup/volume jazzmaster like he does now and it always reminded me of Tom's stratocasters.
