my audience laughed and clapped at the Manson cultists being taken down. laughs when Leo ran into the shed and then full erupt of laughs when he came out with the flamethrower

edit: this included the sweet little old lady sitting next to me who came out to the theatre by herself to check out the new QT flick. she was so funny.

  2. i feel like to have that take you have to just not know the real story at all

  3. iCarly Rae Jepsen

    run away with me Platinum

I saw people on Twitter responding to it but didn't actually see the takes which is always weird

But yeah the people who brutally murdered a pregnant woman for no reason were bad

Herman: Tarantino’s clearly no stranger to rewriting history, often in the form of violent retribution for world-historical villains. But the Manson Family aren’t Nazis, or slave owners, or even Bill; they were young, manipulated, drugged-out kids, and watching Rick take a flamethrower to one feels a lot less cathartic and a lot more uncomfortable than Aldo Raine’s branding Hans Landa with a swastika.

Yeah I mean, like, they're not on the same level as literal Nazis and slave owners, sure, but as @iCarly Rae Jepsen said, it's really hard to feel bad for the brutal murderers of a pregnant woman in her own home. And also likening them to arguably the two worst groups of villains in human history isn't exactly a valid point of comparison lol

  11. i mean i knew what i was getting into when i typed ringer dot com but still, jesus christ

Also, didn't Manson specifically pick the most violent of his people? The ones he knew would really make it brutal?

Per Manson's instructions: "totally destroy everyone in [it], as gruesome as you can"

Baumann: Well, the most prominent side character is the longing, lustful shot of the female foot. I know Tarantino’s got a foot thing, and go nuts, dude, but I left the theater knowing more about Margot Robbie’s plantar fascia than Sharon Tate—thanks to the only instance in human history of someone wanting to take their shoes off in a movie theater.

    This dude sucks too

  15. i feel like Tarantino sort of anticipated this take too by having the one girl run off at the last minute, which makes it clear that at least in this version of the story these aren't people that are brainwashed to the point of being totally out of control of their own actions

Honestly I thought it was great that Tarantino portrayed them as fools and wrote them a more appropriate ending. And I imagine that's also why Tate's family signed off on the movie as well.

  17. he definitely needs to stick to baseball

Also idk wtf this dude is talking about, people taking their shoes off in movie theaters is a huge problem that I and most of my friends have experienced more than once

  19. the ringer dot com is your one stop shop to read sports writers takes about film if you're some kind of moron and that's what you like

I enjoy The Ringer for the most part. so I guess i'm a moron haha, but I find them entertaining, enjoy their rewatchables podcasts. and the exit survey's I usually just take in good fun rather than real takes. feels like they're more aiming for the joke than anything, which maybe doesn't always land.

I was curious if they actually filmed the houses at Cielo Drive but checking on Google Maps it was actually Alta View Drive in Studio City

I really am shocked at how many people are latching on to Pitt’s wife as a way to demonize Tarantino. Is it all bad faith or did they not understand the film?

There are 100% things to criticize about QT and his ethics, that’s just a pretty weak strung to pull at imo

It was intentionally ambiguous and the way I see that she could have died accidentally an unexpected big wave could have rocked the boat causing Cliff's finger to pull the trigger on the harpoon that was already aimed at his wife

  25. if a character (maybe) does a bad thing the filmmaker has to make it completely unambiguous that he is Actually Bad and if he makes you like the character despite the bad thing? problematic
