visual progression has always been a big thing for me in video games, the better I get the more dope I wanna look. which is why back in the day the harder to obtain gear always looked the best. but somewhere along the way corporations realized how much people cared about what their character looked like and decided that was now another way to squeeze money of their pockets

I also don't feel the need to gamble. Or drink excessively. But everyone's brain is wired differently. Even if 80% of players go "yeah I don't care about this" and another 10% go "I'll buy a couple to support the game but do it in moderation", it's still wrong to exploit that 10% who get suckered in.

 

I never said it wasn’t wrong? I think it’s extremely exploitative and it was one of the issues that South Park actually did a good job calling out iirc, been a while since I’ve seen the freemium episode. But it’s especially awful how they’ve basically targeted it like gambling addiction for little kids and these kids will run up their parents credit card and etc.

I was just saying I never understood the allure of it for older people. The free skins they give out are good enough for me haha

 

Yeah it’s wild to me that developers just give their games out for free now because they can make more (or at least enough)money with the loot stuff. As you say, they took something that used to be a sign of how long/well you played the game and monetized it.

True, paying $60 for an Xbox game and then another $60 all the DLC for the rest of the year is a fucking joke.

 

I just got Mario Maker and found out I have to pay for Nintendo's dumb online service to play any of the user created levels. Was not happy about that at all

 

You can offset the cost by buying the game voucher that will let you pick from 2 games (current or future) for 100 dollars.
