But why? We already have this

 

Finally getting round to watching the first four films in the Alien series that I got on Blu-ray, enjoyed the hell out of the first two once again but just watched the third film and what the fuck was that? Not the worst sequel I have ever seen because we live in a world where Speed 2 exists but what a fall from grace from two great films to something that lacks the vast majority of qualities present in the prior two.

 

Should've gone with the Assembly Cut!

 

I'm pretty sure I did as it was around two hours and twenty minutes long as I had heard the theatrical release was underwhelming but I didn't find the longer version any good either.

 

Lol the third is such a joke. The series peaks with the first two, but Resurrection is better in that like... Popcorn entertainment way. 3 was.... A choice

 

I enjoy and respect Alien 3 *ducks*

 

Alien 3 would’ve been cool had it gone with the original direction.

 

The documentary about Alien 3 is highly recommend, it totally serves as a fantastic example of executive meddling

 

Well, I do hope I enjoy Resurrection more otherwise I'm in for another underwhelming experience.

 

Yeah I wouldn't say Resurrection is great but it's better than 3 which is an admittedly low bar lol

 

is it streaming anywhere?

 

Yeah, just watched it and though it is marginally better than the third one it is still riddled with flaws but it does have the biggest laugh in the series albeit unintentionally with the hybrid xenomorph.

 

Nah, maybe YouTube. It was a special feature in the box set

 

Fincher is one of my favorite directors, so I've always been scared to watch Alien 3 even though it was his first movie and there was apparently a lot of studio meddling.

 

Guillermo del Toro has been open about his feud with the studio when making Mimic, his first Hollywood movie. I remember reading something he said to the fact that the struggle to finish the film was a worse ordeal than the time his father was kidnapped and held for ransom.

 

Oh big time, they straight up fired the original director because they didn’t understand his vision and thought it wasn’t marketable. In fact, the set were being built when they fired him and the used the sets because they had already spent money on them.

 

Sounds like a nightmare production. Maybe I'll do a double feature with the documentary you mentioned earlier, which would make it a more worthwhile viewing experience.

It almost made David Fincher quit directing and he has disavowed the film. He has said that the workprint version is the closest thing there is to his vision.
