So who needs a RB ?

I find something oddly funny about how he went out of his way to change his number in what may be his final season with the team and now is holding out and threating a trade

I would like a new RB but would not like to pay Melvin Gordon holdout money especially not with no real GM to write the contract

they'll pay him. They have plenty of cap space and their window is now while they still have Rivers

Also one would imagine that assuming rivers retires soon, they could have a cheap rookie QB. Might as well keep the good situation you have for him, and and also keep weapons around for winning now.

Ingram and Allen are up for extension before hitting free agency very shortly after though and Bosa will be rapidly approaching too. I'm not saying they won't pay Gordon but idk how much of that cap space will be able to stay.

I know he's been good on the field, but he's had so many injury issues that I've always felt like it would not be in the team's best interest to pony up for a big second contract. Running backs are a dime a dozen.

I love Gordon, but giving him a new contract is such a risk. Especially with what was stated above by socklord. Running backs are a dime a dozen. I am leaning towards just franchising him and then maybe letting him go. The injury concerns are just too valid imo.

  11. You don't need to pay your RBs. Conner, Samuels and Snell RBBC baby

Honestly the Chargers should just trade him, I mean I think they could be pretty successful without him. I'd rather have the money to lock up Allen, Ingram and Bosa.

More teams should go RBBC tbh.

Then the big question becomes who is gonna trade to extend an injury prone runningback? And that's where things get complicated haha

But I agree with you and I guess worst case scenario they could just sit Gordon for however long he wants to hold out and let him hit free agency

Absolutely, they already proved they can make do with Austin Eckler and Justin Jackson if need be.

Yeah wouldn't pay Gordon, but that's coming from A Steeler fan that didn't want to pay Bell who's worth a lot more than Gordon lol

If I was the Chargers I would pay Gordon.

Runningbacks are not a “dime a dozen”. They aren’t as important as they used to be but having a very good one is something maybe 1/3 of teams in the league actually have. Once you name the top 11 or 12 RBs there is a serious drop off after that.

In the late 2000s most teams ran RBBC... and most of those teams fucking sucked at running lol. I really think that only works for pass-dominant teams with great OL (Steelers, Patriots & Eagles are both of those things hence why it works for them.) Chargers can pass but they don’t have the OL to literally make Ekeler their lead back. In most cases you aren’t gonna control the tempo of the game without a strong starter at RB.

The league has been trending back toward “workhorse” RBs for a reason. For every example of a team that could win without theirs, there’s a Rams or Cowboys that dearly needs their RB in order to be a dangerous team.

Well the Rams paid Gurley all the money and now look at them.

Maybe Gordon is a genius for pulling this before Gurley or Bell play this year lol
