This. I got my wife a ring that looked like mountains, since we are big outdoors people, and if I dropped $300 total Id be surprised. All off Etsy, actually. And I got a ton of compliments for the ring choice, without a single "what, no big diamonds!?" comment that I'm aware of.

 

This is also probably the best advice this thread has had. Get a decent photographer for your wedding day, so when you look back the photos make it look even better. And take the other thousands that people drop on nonsense and save it for an awesome honeymoon trip, etc.

Same thing for your registry. Unless you need a bunch of kitchen stuff, just make your registry a honeymoon fund. People buy your meals, hotels, adventures, etc.

we're in the wedding planning process right now and WHEW I should have become a wedding photographer

the cheapest we're seeing start at like $3,500

 

Luckily my Girlfriend's sister has her own photography/video business so that'll be a godsend for us.

 

I think we're the only people in the world who don't know someone in the wedding industry

 

I think I disagree with the whole “small wedding, big honeymoon” thing, for me anyways. Wedding day was probably my favorite day of my life and having everyone together celebrating me was super special, and the honeymoon, while also great, was comparable with other vacations. Obviously not going into mountains of debt for the wedding is a good thing, but I think back fondly on the wedding much more often than the honeymoon

 

I think it all just depends

 

we're not doing a honeymoon, at least not for awhile. We're paying for everything ourselves and we just did a big trip to Ireland so I tend to agree

a lot of my close friends live a few hours away from me so I am just excited to get everyone together and party all weekend

 

For me to have a big wedding I would have to invite all of you nerds instead of just a couple of you nerds.

I love attending weddings

I wanted a big wedding up until our miscarriage happened and then I was like "oh wait the last thing I wanna do is deal with the stress of planning a wedding right now" but yeah in general I think they're fun

 

I only attended weddings as a kid, which sucked. At this point, nearing the end of my life, I have remarkably few non-married friends so I don't expect to be going to too many weddings anyway haha.

 

The best part about weddings is you get to drink for free.

 

I like attending other people's weddings. My own wedding went by so fast it wasn't worth the money imo and I don't like being the center of attention so everyone watching us gave me so much anxiety lol
