For me Crooked Shadows is a sliding scale from Great ("We Fight"), to pretty good ("Heart Beat Here"), to OK but not really exciting ("Open My Eyes"). Nothing that I outwardly hate, but it's far and away the most uneven album of his

We Fight was easily the best song. I was actually so stoked for the album when that was the first released

Just What to Say stuck with me the most. But I think it was one of those right place right time songs for me.

My only thought is that he still felt like those songs were effected by the label in some way idk. His message about how “he originally envisioned them” makes me think that but yea. I won’t be going back to that one as much as the other two.

  6. I dug these. I love Chris. Now for the new Twin Forks, please.

  8. Man I enjoyed every moment of these. Been a while since I revisited these so they felt fresh and nostalgic at the same time. Summer night staples this year for sure

  9. Man I remember when these were coming out. I have them all downloaded and in my library. Such a great run of shows and I was at the LA date. Nothing like singing along with the crowd at a small dashboard acoustic show.

  10. I was at the SLC date. That was also my first time seeing Dashboard, so it's really cool to have a quality recording from that show.

I wish more artists would do this. I was just saying the other day that City and Colour should do this. And Kevin Devine. Donovan Woods did with his latest. Just kinda of fun.

Decided to give AMAMABAS and Dusk and Summer a full listen today.

Damn, the new ending he added to Dusk and Summer gave me chills.

Is there any reason I should listen to Alter the Ending? Any different from the acoustic version he actually released 10 years ago?

  13. I did not think the new version was better but idk

  14. I never took to the acoustic version before. I never looked into it much but it felt like Chris did an acoustic pass and they just laid the same vocal tracks over it. I could be VERY wrong but this new version felt better to me.

He’s had “Vindicated” in that spot on the Spotify version of D&S for a bit now. Idk if I love that placement though... it’s such a climactic song, feels like it should be closer to the end.

    all we have is time

Selfishly it's kind of sad hearing him talk about how he regrets certain aspects of these records, especially since these three have been some of the most important pieces of music in my life. Kinda sucks hearing he wasn't totally connected to them considering how emotionally impactful they've been for me.

That being said-- from an artistic standpoint I really respect him doing this.

And about his vocals.. everyone's voice ages differently but I just hope he's okay in terms of longevity. Some spots sound painful for him

Chris can look however he wants as long as he keeps making music and keeps appreciating his past work the way he has been. I love it.

I’m guessing he doesn’t regret the profits made from these records/tours that came after though.

I don’t get why you couldn’t just say something like “I always wondered what an edgier version would sound like and wanted to try it”.

Just got around to listening to the revisited Alter the Ending, and it's fascinating how different the lyrics to "Until Morning" and "Alter the Ending" are. I always wondered why the latter had the title it did. Now I guess we know. I'd be super interested to talk to him and see what exactly happened on these records.
