That movie came out when I was in middle school and coincidentally enough our English teacher had us read the book around the time the movie was out.

  5. Yeah, Child's Play was very solid and then the third act was flat-out great. Funnier and more gruesome than I expected, though not necessarily as gory, which I was fine with. My biggest complaint would be that it didn't necessarily have to be a Child's Play film -- the rogue AI concept could've been explored without a pre-existing franchise -- but they want that association and I get it.

Def recommend for folks who are into horror-comedy. I enjoyed it more than the IT reboot, tbh.

  6. Just finished watching the Assembly Cut of Alien 3 for the first time, and it rules. Obviously never quite reaches the levels of the first two -- the working cut still has issues, and there is some really rough 90s CGI -- but as another fresh take on the franchise, it's really pretty solid.

Haven't seen it but what's the big difference that makes it better than the theatrical cut. I also much prefer the director's cut of Aliens because it includes a crucial scene that makes Ripley's character development even stronger.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

it's almost an entirely different movie in the second half - the characters who aren't Ripley have some really powerful, interesting arcs that the theatrical cut just chopped out and randomly reassembled half a movie out of. it's much better

Help us decide! The Hills Have Eyes OG or remake...

  11. What Rowan said. It's almost 40 minutes of new and alternate footage. There's an entire subplot that was cut out of the theatrical edition that ties up some loose ends, and in general there's much more emphasis put on the prisoners and their philosophies that make their character arcs more satisfying.

I voted for the original but honestly you should do both with their own beers

We though about that (we did an old vs new for Pet Sematary), but to be frank we don't have the time to do both again. So we decided to open it up and be a user pick.

Child's Play was fun. Watched for Aubrey and BTH but the kids were also great. Definitely not prestige horror, but I'm trying to be less picky. Honestly, though, after watching this I'm more afraid of electronics and self driving cars than I am of Chucky himself, which is a good thing, I guess , because I think I'd be too freaked out if I watched Annabelle or any of the older Chucky films. Fuck dolls.

My only gripe is why did the dude have to be from Vietnam. Also, any time there's Vietnamese in an English-language film they use words/phrases I'm unfamiliar with. Like, who actually talks like that? Is it a mainland vs. diaspora slang sort of thing? Thank goodness for subtitles.

    Stay through the credits.

I like that this and Miley's Black Mirror episode were released so close together.

edit: omg I saw this on Aubrey's birthday hahaha

Past few days I’ve been able to watch some horror films: The House of The Devil (loved it), Maniac, Bloody Birthday, Next of Kin.

Currently watching Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer. The scene where they are watching their home made video was really disturbing

    Henry is hard to watch.

How was Maniac (original im assuming?), Bloody Birthday, and Next of Kin? These are all on my Shudder list.

  17. I was hoping to go into Midsommar blind--if at all; Hereditary scarred me--but the trailer was shown before Child's Play and gdi it looks really interesting.

Annabelle Comes Home looked interesting as well, but aside from this one time Chucky-meets-Black Mirror, I don't do dolls.

Maniac is awesome as well. Bloody Birthday was a pretty fun watch. Next of Kin wasn’t really my thing, found myself tuning in and out, waiting for it to be over

  19. Someone should put Beatrice Kitsos and Sophia Lillis in a horror film so they can wreck shit together.

There was a doc on Netflix I wish I could remember the name but it made the argument that Justin Long’s character arc in Jeepers Creepers was wrestling with his own homosexuality.

Scream Factory Bringing ‘The Omen’ Franchise Collection to Blu-ray With 4K Remaster of the Original! oooo. I do love The Omen, I never saw the sequels until recently, really enjoyed 2, and then 3 was just great because of Sam Neil. that monologue he gives when he's alone in the crypt or something. so good. I haven't seen 4.

I worked at a movie theatre when the remake came out, I believe it was a Friday the 13th, and there was a massive thunder storm and our lights were flickering. it was too good haha. though I don't really remember the remake, last time I watched it.

I’m pretty sure it was also the NoES doc. I wanna say they briefly mention it when also discussing the NoES 2 homosexual themes. Could be way off though.
