They weren't available in New England when I was a kid so whenever we'd visit the Jersey Shore or my grandparents in PA, we'd buy a bunch and smuggle them across state lines.

Nice shifting of the goal posts there, went from talking about the policies of each admin to the individual people within the govt that process asylum claims.

  9. Get a load of this guy who thinks an administration has no control over whether it's agencies are stocked with racists

Also this isn't really related except that it happened under Obama and all the rest but I do worry if we are taking too narrow a view of who is suffering abuses by just talking about "asylum seekers" and not the rest who cross the border for seasonal work and etc who also suffer major abuses because unauthorized border crossing has always been specifically designed to be possible but very dangerous and harrowing so as to allow a certain amount of workers to flow through while others die in the desert or are captured and deported. CBP used to (I assume they patrol everywhere now which is why I say used to but idrk) much more strictly patrol the safest routes across the border thus forcing people to use more dangerous ones. Activists would try to leave water etc on the more dangerous ones but CBP liked to dump it out on the ground

I mean, to a certain extent, but a lot of these people are implicitly racist and it's not something that will really show in what I assume is the interview and/or nomination process.

I was just focusing on asylum seekers because that's been what this so-called "crisis" at the border has been driven by and they seem to make up the majority of these people being held in the camps. But yeah I get all that.

Yeap, that seems super important. I read she was outdoing him in just about everything a week ago but that doesn't mean too much. They can't let the dccc win in a super blue district, every progressive should be paying attention to that one because if he wins again it's gonna be pretty fucking bad for primary challengers everywhere.

All of those bands are well respected, but they've been around forever. It bums me out that there aren't many younger bands writing overtly political music. I get that punk isn't nearly as popular as it once was, but it seems like there is a void in rock music in general. Most of the political stuff is in hip-hop now, which is a good thing, but I miss pissed off punk rock songs.

Another I can think of from last year is Frank Turner's Be More Kind. However, he's been around for awhile and also ... the album was not good.

  25. I mean, you named a bunch of older bands that were doing protest music in 2004 too, and asked where it was now, I can send you new punk music too, but the punk music thread is probably a better place for that. It’s there. I write about it on a regular basis.
