Mom? Can you pick me up? The blink-182 thread is drinking and saying weird things.

 

When I saw Blink at Back To The Beach I thought they sounded great and Matt played and sang very well. With the way Tom sings now it wouldn't sound good...at all. And I love Tom but I LOVE the current line up too.

 

Oh no, the current line up is perfectly fine, I just feel like the audio mix is weird.

 

I'm listening to The Mark, Tom, and Travis Show right now. Travis is a complete machine on this entire recording.

 

It’s amazing. It’s like you CAN love blink when they had Tom and this new lineup too

 

Tom is a much better guitar player than skiba. I have listened to a couple of Alkaline Trio albums and the guitars on them compared to Tom's guitar playing on Dude ranch, eots and toypaj is just terribel.

 

Why don't you just start your own Tom thread?

Tom has said that Skiba's songwriting during that time influenced him to change some things he wrote so I guess Tom can have the better guitarist title since Matt had the better songwriter title

 

I also saw someone in the comment section of blink’s FB post say Skiba sucked.

 

I don’t think Tom is better than Matt. Tom just writes more riffs, or at least he did with Blink. In terms of overall skill I think they’re pretty similar. And Matt plays Tom’s songs better live.

 

Shit that means it's true cause FB is the social media equivalent of Wikipedia. My day is ruined

What was your favorite Tom memory from 2009-2014?

Their Reading performances were amazing. And Neighbourhoods was a good album. Not perfect but still better than California. Seeing them together in interviews again was also nice.

 

What do you think makes Neighborhoods better than California?

Neighbourhoods were better because of the songwriting, the songs themselves and the overall vibe. I said the album is not perfect but at least they still had Tom.

 

I might be wrong, but i remember the fanbase not being all that happy when it came out?

 

Well we didn't know how much worse they could do. You never know what you have until it's gone I guess.

But really, Neighborhoods has a handful of good songs, but so does California. There’s no denying that. They’re also completely different so they’re not really comparable anyway. Neither are perfect albums, by any means though. I would even say that I don’t think Blink has a “perfect album” in their entire discography. But I digress... So yeah, Tom has obviously written some rad songs but he has some really fucking awful songs too. The vast majority of which came later in his career. He is nowhere as great he was 15-20 years ago.

 

i definitely remember feeling left out for liking it compared to what i was mostly reading online at the time haha

seems to be hailed as a flawed masterpiece now. i wonder what hoops people who completely reject California now will jump through once the new album drops!

 

Yup, give it time. When the next album drops people will shit all over it and wish it would sound more like California. It’s been like this every album cycle. When Untitled came out people weren’t happy, these days it’s considered to be the best album.
