@trevorshmevor thanks very much! I, too, think the cajon I used for the percussion added a cool feel to the song, and I tried to make it have a similar feel to the drums in the actual song. Very cool take on such a well known song of theirs. It's always cool when people take very different approaches to covers. Mine tend to be fairly close to the original, but you changing yours up made it very enjoyable to listen to.

What a killer comp! I'm stoked that we ended up getting so many songs done in honor of STD. I was hoping we would span each and every album but oh well; I'm still happy with the outcome! Great song choices all around.

@Things So Impossible Freakish has been one of my favorite songs for a while now, and for the past few years I've usually closed my live sets with it. It's always just me playing rhythm guitar and my brother playing cajon, so I've always played basically a straight cover of the original with no layers. This was a really fun opportunity to get to play some leads and add harmonies and truly make it my own. The ending has always been my favorite part because it's so grand and uplifting with the layers and beat, etc. I wanted to make it unique from the original so I went with the three part harmony for the refrain. When I heard that, it gave me a strong folky feel so I decided to add a really sharp and staccato lead riff over it to really accent the rhythm, hammer-ons and pull-offs notwithstanding. The end result gives me an image of people doing a waltz box step to it. Hopefully someone else can picture that as well hahaha. (I tend to see "music videos" playing in my head when I hear songs)

Thanks for the kind words @zigbigwig and @jco3 !

@elemenohpe I love the garage band feeling! You really captured the young Conley's energy. I love the dirty tone of the instrumentation, especially the opening guitar in The Last Lie I Told. Great voice/vocals! Plus any time I hear that classic pronunciation of "five forty fi-ee-iiiive!" I get a big smile. Both your covers really rocked! I really enjoy the way your songs fade out; it leaves the listener wanting more.

Thank you for the compliments! I'm always working to improve my voice so I appreciate the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed the layered guitars as well; that's always one of my favorite parts of crafting any song I play.

@trevorshmevor Everyone's already mentioned the Postal Service vibe, which is the very first thing I thought of when I heard this. This cover is truly phenomenal. You had a tall order ahead of you by choosing such an iconic song and I like that you took it in a completely new direction from the original. I also appreciate that this style is so different from the high energy stuff I've heard you do previously. I listen to this one a lot so thank you.

Thanks for the positive feedback! Freakish is among my all time favorite songs so I'm pleased I did it justice in your eyes. Your covers are amazing so that's really high praise!

@bradsonemanband I can't believe the way you said you recorded this. To learn and perform the song in such a short time amazes me, and I'm really very impressed. Your voice fits this song extremely well. I actually think that this is my favorite cover of yours that I've heard; it comes across as so genuine, probably due to the way you recorded it. Conley would be proud. Also, it's sick that you took a song off of this album!

Thanks for choosing my song as the opener dude! That felt really good. I'm glad I was able to do such a classic STD song justice. As always, thank you for organizing this and I'm really happy we finally did Saves the Day. This is my favorite comp of those I've participated on. Thank you for the high praise! Also thank you for posting the statistics on these comps; those things are always really fascinating to me!

@nothingsforeverdude This is one of my favorite songs off of Under the Boards, and I'm so glad someone repped that album. Your voice is always one of my favorites on these comps and it works with this song so beautifully. Even sick you sounded great. Thank you for soldiering on to provide something for the comp despite the illness. A short and sweet cover!

@DashboardProfessional Thank you for bringing back the "crackling record intro." But for real the leads in this song are superb and sound great acoustic. The cajon is on point, especially the rolls. It really adds a great dimension to the song. This is perhaps my favorite song on the Grapefruit album, and it was necessary that that album get some love so well done. Very strong ending.

@InfiniteArms If I've said it once, I've said it a million times: In Reverie is a brilliant album and it's a travesty that it got treated as it did way back when. Thank you for repping it. Your vocals are great, but you absolutely KILLED the music! Great song choices; Morning in the Moonlight is so cool and obscure! I'm especially impressed with how you nailed the galloping guitar in Where Are You? Great guitar tone on both songs. I'm not a technically great guitarist by any means, so anyone playing the chords off of In Reverie has my respect haha. I don't think the timing on Where Are You is a detriment. It's different, but gives your cover a great tone. Also, sometimes you sound like the lead singer of the Arctic Monkeys, and that's really cool. And thanks for throwing together a second song to help pad the comp; much appreciated!

Thanks for the kind words! Interesting choice of metaphor hahaha. I definitely appreciate it.

@snaps Again, great song choice. This is one of my favorite STD tracks. Your covers are always well done, but this is probably my favorite I've heard from you. The lead guitar during the first "like the one year of my life..." part is especially epic and beautiful. I really appreciate the dynamics you gave to your cover, choosing to start the song more slowly than the original and having peaks and valleys in terms of energy throughout the song. One of my favorites on the comp!

Thank you for the praise man! I performed every part of the song, and I really appreciate the kind words about the guitar tracks. I had a lot of fun coming up with new leads for coming out of the bridge and for the outro. Glad you enjoyed the falsetto! Some of them sound a bit out of key to me now, but I was unfortunately sick when recording some parts so it happens haha.

@Jonah Bayer Thank you so much for getting back to me and contributing to the comp! I usually do rather straightforward covers so I always appreciate the talents of people who completely flip a song. This cover is really enjoyable in context too, because it balances the high energy of the other songs on the comp. Your voice has a very interesting quality to it and works with this version of the song particularly well. In fact every part of this cover is so well calculated and thought out. The drum loop fits perfectly, especially when it cuts in and out during the Conley speech and when it fades the song out. And including Chris talking, and choosing that part and that specific topic, is truly inspired. Very well constructed!

@xkhiemster A classic Saves the Day track. I really like this one as an ender for the comp, so kudos to you and to Brad for slotting it there. Your cover keeps the upbeat feel of the original and I think it leaves a great taste in the proverbial mouths of the listeners. There's something very genuine about your vocals and it works particularly well for this song. Great job!

Great jobs all around peeps. We killed this one! Looking forward to a Saves the Day part 2 in the future!

When we do a Gaslight/Brian Fallon one my head will explode because of the options. I'd probably do a Horrible Crowes song, but would feel awful missing out on so many Gaslight or solo songs haha.

You know what's great? If we end up doing a stage and screen mixtape, I could do a song from the Swiss Army Man soundtrack, and I could finally cover an Andy Hull related project.

I hate tooting my own horn, giving myself a pat on the back, etc, but I am really, really happy with the way Morning In The Moonlight turned out for a one take recording.

Thanks everyone for your words of praise and encouragement!

The only thing I remember about Yellowcard is that they have a violin player and the Anberlin drummer was with them for awhile. This is gonna be fun.
