It's expanded on a lot more in the books. Like his relationship with Kim especially (which the movie mentions but doesn't go into as deep as the books).

But the movie portrays him as a creep who literally can't get over his girlfriend's past because he's an immature manchild. The over-the-top action sequences really reinforce that aspect of the story as well.

I blame the guy who directed the movie who clearly doesn't get the satire.

P much agreed. Yeah it’s an incredibly technically proficient movie. From that standpoint, it’s damn near incredible. But I’d probably rather watch behind the scenes footage of how they shot it than watch the movie again

do you think it went completely over his head tho? he's a pretty sharp guy. I think it can just be really hard to adapt a screenplay from a book like that. I don't think anyone was ever going to be completely happy with the film. I enjoy both for what they are

besides murdering Jared Leto I don't condone his actions and beliefs

 

The way he treats the (one) woman in the film alone is enough to convince me he didn't have the best of intentions with that movie. I haven't seen it since high school so I can't give you an essay on it or anything but if you're really interested in the toxicity of it listen to The Bechdel Cast's episode on it, they do a good job of pointing out a lot of things. I think there's a way to make the right point but there's no indication in that movie that that intention was there.

 

Hard for me to not pick The Social Network as his best film but yeah Zodiac is also in the conversation.
