"Bring Me Back To Life" was okay when I first heard it, but for some reason I went back to it and now I'm obsessed with it. Thought this was coming out yesterday but since it didn't going to have to download the leak because I can't wait anymore -- haven't done that in god knows how long.

holy shit y'all I was not ready for The Dangerous Summer's rebirth as synthpop but "Bring Me Back to Life" and "It Is Real" are stunning

The guys came in with like 14+ demos or something. I set them up to jam and record live in my east studio. So when they did they just started jamming new ideas and pretty much abandoned all those demos. At points they would pull from those demos and re-work them. It was a “get your song together. Get yourselves stoked. And when you are stoked show me and we’ll work it from there.” Scenario.

As I’d record drums or guitars or whatever for it AJ would sit in east and work on lyrics. Matt would eventually pop in and be like “Yo AJ’s got a chorus for this song now. It’s so good dude” and I’d pop over and hear it and be stoked. What’s really important to mention is obviously how much AJ cares about lyrics. I could point out how he was missing a syllable in the 3rd line which would then make him completely re-write it and then show me 3 different ideas that all still work. He just has a serious serious dedication and obsession with lyrics and pointing out shit like like a missing syllables would just pump him up. “OH SHIT YOU ARE RIGHT. THATS GENIUS. LET ME WORK ON IT”

Just so much back and fourth inspiration. One room has this going on. The other has this. It was fun to pop into each world throughout the day. And I’m like tuning drums and getting stressed about getting the takes, Matt and AJ are just jamming away on a keyboard and ideas next door completely unstressed making tunes etc.

Making records is FUN. But only when it’s HELLA hard work!

^^^^ That and when the people involved get candid with fans about the process and development of an album really makes you appreciate and see the art in a different way.

Hearing how much lyrics mean to AJ and how hard he works on them is telling ... because that’s the one thing I would tell him. His lyrics mean so fucking much to me.

I actually hold the self titled really high in their catalog. Curious what did you mean here by the self titled production is "literally" flat. It isnt the most dynamic production, no, I agree but ISaw some other people say it was out of tune or something but I cant hear any flat notes, or out of tuneness at all! Can anyone elaborate ?

If the instruments are it's just tuned down a semi tone, many many bands do that. And it may be " flat" in relation to standard E guitar and hard to play along with without adjusting, but it wont sound flat while listening

Yeah I mean it’s clearly a case of things being down a semi tone and not out of tune but it sounds “wrong” to my ears for the first few notes of whatever song I’m listening to, and idk I can’t think of any recent albums with the same thing so it sticks out like a sore thumb in my library

Yeah I can’t really explain it either but this is exactly how I feel. Like the songs are just slightly out of tune but not enough to actually be like “that’s out of tune”. Especially in comparison to how full and on point this album sounds

Yeah I listened for this today and everything is perfectly in tune. I think you are referring to out of tune to standard E tuning if your ear is that accustomed to that maybe. But Metallica, and countless other bands have half of their catalog in half step down tuning. Its perfectly in "tune" thi its just in a slightly different key than e tuning

It’s not simply the tuning of the guitars it’s the entire recording is tuned to something other than the standard 440hz

As someone with near perfect pitch I back the feeling that it sounds strangely tuned

I mean I know what half step down tuning is lol. The entirety of Good Apollo by Coheed is tuned down a half step and it's one of the best sounding records I've ever heard. But obviously I'm not the only person who thinks something about the self titled sounds slightly off which makes me think I'm not just losing my mind

When I get home (heh) I'm gonna try throwing a couple of the songs into Audacity and adjust them by a like a microtonal amount and see if it sounds better
