    Keep on the sunny side.

Any of you guys ever taken a stab at Vince Gill's These Days? It's a 4-disc set broken up into rock, country, acoustic, etc. A lot of good stuff on there. He's pretty great all around, great voice.

discovered two new artists I love last night. Saw Jessica Lea Mayfield live when my cousin who was in town invited me, had never heard of her before but I was instantly won over. Checked out her fb page and she had recommended a new record by a guy named Matt Haeck, so I bought it and love it.

I used to listen to Mayfield occasionally, but had forgot about here. The song you posted is easily my favorite song of hers. I think she put out an album with one of the avetts a year or so ago, but I never got around to checking it out, maybe I'll try that out today.

It's a beautiful album, in my opinion easily his best yet. I love all of his albums though.

Looking for some new artists to look into, except I feel really particular sometimes about how I like my country.

I tried Sturgill Simpson and Chris Stapleton, to no avail. Just wasn't feeling it. I'm listening to Parker Millsap now and so far I'm intrigued.

Here's some of what I really like: Brian Fallon, Arliss Nancy, Foy Vance, Butch Walker, Ryan Adams, Bruce, Bright Eyes (and Conor solo stuff), Dave Hause, John Hiatt, Cash, Lord Huron, Mudcrutch & Petty, Young, Isbell, Dylan, Noah Gundersen, Whiskeytown, and the like. Obviously not all country, but americana, roots, country leaning, but with some snark and bite yet.

    Any new suggestions? Help?

    Jason Isbell

Also I don't get how anybody couldn't like Sturgil

Edited him in there. Big fan of Isbell. I've only listened to Sturgill's new album once. I didn't dislike it and he sounded great, but it didn't really hit where I wanted it to for me. I plan on revisiting, as it might be a grower for me.

Well 3 people you didn't mention (but may know) that I love would be David Ramirez, John Moreland, and Donovan Woods,

If you like Conor, you gotta check out this guy Anthony D'Amato. His record Cold Snap actually sounds kind of like a Conor solo album, and Conor even guests on a few tracks.

Mathew Ryan's album Boxers and Joey kneiser's album the wildness you might like based on you listing fallon, and Bruce.

Also I think the new Richmond Fontaine would appeal to any Whiskeytown fan.

I've been wearing out the new felice brothers lately also, but not sure you'd love them based on your list there. Their stuff always reminds me of Dylans basement tapes.

Man, this Maren Morris album is hot garbage. Was hoping it'd be decent since she sang on a Ryan Beaver track but nope

    this album blows my mind

country constructed in the same way hip hop is, by way of samples etc

try the first three tracks @Ben Lee

Yeah, I saw that list earlier when Aubrie Sellers RT'd it. Can't say I agree with certain albums being on that list at all (Morris, obv and Dierks Bently?? Come on). But mostly pretty good picks.

Cannot get into that Brandy Clark album at all though.

Morris is also featured on the Bentley album, and the track she's on is pretty great. There are a few on there I like, actually. The Steve Moakler co-write and the closer are very strong stuff that don't sound like most mainstream country. I think he's a guy who could make some legitimately good records if he weren't chasing radio. As is, Black is a lot better than most of the other mainstream records on that list (Frankie Ballard, Jennifer Nettles, Keith Urban).

I've really come around on the Clark album. I like it more than her debut at this point. I think the best songs are just fucking incredible and the weaker songs are still pretty fun. What's keeping you from enjoying it?

I think that's what's so frustrating about Bentley. I don't find him nearly as annoying as a lot of his peers, so that's something I guess. Definitely not a fan of Frankie Ballard or Jennifer Nettles. Keith Urban isn't my jam either but I hear his stuff so seldom that I can never really get mad about it ha.

I guess I just can't get into Brandy Clark in general. 12 Stories was an enjoyable listen but I've never really gone back to it after the initial couple spins. The new one just gets too sugary-radio-ready for me I guess? I don't hate it at all but I can't say I love it either, at least not relative to the amount of acclaim it's getting.

On a separate note, some newer stuff I'm really enjoying:

    Ruston Kelly - Halloween EP
The Felice Brothers - Life in the Dark
Margaret Glaspy - Emotions and Math
    Robert Ellis - S/t
    Sarah Jarosz - Undercurrent
    Luke Bell - S/t

I'm warming up to the new Daniel Romano quite a bit too.

Yeah, I think he works with the right people a lot of the time and ends up with some killer songs. Stapleton guested on his closer last time. But he's got this image of being the "party boy" or whatever, and he can't or won't shake it. Which is why we end up with songs like "Somewhere on a Beach." Bleh

I think the songwriting on Clark's record is just of such a high level that it doesn't feel like a radio record to me at all. And fuck, if songs like "Love Can Go to Hell" can land on country radio, I'm all for it. Similar to how I felt about Hoge's last one, which was absolutely a play for the mainstream, but which still kept up a high level of song craft.

I'm so split on that Ellis record. I think he's great sometimes and then other times I think he's insufferable.
