Less obvious one: Patrick Peterson is a more consistent producer than Jalen Ramsey and has a long tenure to prove he can be counted on to produce similarly to previous years so I have him above Jalen Ramsey right now

 

But if you're ranking him going into this season, would you rank PP over Ramsey because of his previous years?

 

In coverage, sure, that’s fine

Ramsey is the best CB in the league at run defense though. Which makes him the most well rounded CB in the league. Dqm.

That's fair. Agree to disagree on that.

 

I also think it depends on what context I'm looking at "who would you put above who" in but in the instance of ranking greats I'm using consistency as a factor

But in terms of this dumb ranking thing that happened I can get you being like "okay but how good is he now" and thinking guys like Pederson who are relatively new are now better than him. I'm just not QUITE there yet in terms of evaluating the new vs the old.

I still don’t even think any of the new guys are better than Payton

McVay is like a poor man’s Payton. He struggles just as much with defense with a lot more talent, and has already shown that his offense can sometimes totally choke

Pederson > Payton

 

I think Pederson and Reich could both enter my top 5 at some point, just not yet

 

And it fucking sucks

Pederson could end up above Payton but he isn't yet. He only has 3 years experience so far.

If Pederson was an elite coach last year would’ve been better. They barely sneaked into the playoffs and then didn’t they get immediately bounced by Nagy’s Bears?

 

If the team record hovers around as good this year as it did the previous years without weird Nick Foles magic and they can win a playoff game or two it'll boost him a ton in my eyes

Right now he's just outside the top 5 for me

 

And then got his starters back and regressed?

 

Just forgetting about that five year period where Payton had one winning season huh?

 

Honestly to me that just sounds like Pederson came back down to earth a bit once teams figured out what he likes to do. Not that he isn’t a good coach but hey, more scrutiny when you call him elite
