I think we can start and end this discussion with Drew Brees honestly. Do we really believe he would have multpile 5100-5400 yard seasons, without Payton putting him in position to do it and putting weapons at his disposal in the EXACT way they are best utilized?

    I certainly don’t.

He had 10 touchdowns with the Panthers a few years ago. I can't even wrap my mind around that haha

    The rivalry is back on

In hindsight sure, but Fournette and McCaffrey were the 1st round RB prospects in that draft, and maybe you could have made the argument for Dalvin

Likewise I don’t remember it being controversial at the time that Coleman, Fuller, Doctson, and Treadwell were the 4 WRs to go in the first, and not Thomas. At best, he was a prospect near the top of a very unspectacular WR class who happened to develop very well

Yeah but he still has the same damn problems lol

It’s just disappointing to see an elite athlete never put it all together. He had the speed and elusiveness to be a Tyreek Hill esque WR1 but instead only peaked as a deep threat WR3

I remember pre-draft discussions being that Thomas was in the same tier as Fuller and Coleman, below the tier of Doctson and Treadwell

    I could be wrong

Legacy wise it's hard to argue against him just because of tenure. But I don't think that's an accurate way to rank anything. We certainly don't do that with players.

Haha @whitenblue88 was that really that WR draft class? Fuck that’s awful lol. I actually now agree with @CarpetElf on the smaller point that Thomas was far and away the best WR in that draft

I think it's fair as long as you're relatively consistent across your tenure. For ex. I don't think John Harbaugh has the same consistency as Sean Payton.

Coleman, Doctson, AND Treadwell are all totally useless lmao

I definitely said that Kamara was right below Fournette and CMC.

I think MT was the same tier as those guys too. I can't claim to be right about any of the receivers though because I thought Doctson was #1 and Fuller was ass. haha. But I definitely remember seeing people say MT was the best in class.

And yes we do do that with players who produce across a long tenure tbh

I had Treadwell at #1 and thought Fuller was ass too so fuck me

I threw a mini-fit that day because I wanted Hunter Henry instead

Yeah I'd rate Payton right above Harbaugh. They just have the exact opposite strengths and problems haha.

Alright, got my phone interview tonight after work. I believe it's just this one thing and then I'm through if they like me.

Yeah the 2016 draft class had some terrible first round WR picks. Thomas has become far and away the best.

The 2017 RB draft class however, was loaded with RB talent....CMC, Cook, Mixon, Kamara, Hunt, Fournette. Wild.

This is the main thing that tends to redeem you, you call talent well at the college level. It definitely at least backs up part of your argument that you were high on Kamara the whole time.

Saying Fournette last even though he got drafted first makes me want to weep

@CarpetElf and I both liked Kamara a ton

    Most people did though

haha my list is in no order of how I rank them by the way. If I had to do that I'd go CMC, Kamara, Hunt, Mixon, Cook, Fournette

    Shiiiiiiiiit.

I didn’t look it up or anything but I feel like Payton would be my favorite to beat Harbaugh if all other factors remained constant.

Harbaugh is a great defensive mind but I think the Saints would still overwhelm him.

He does a rock solid job against the Patriots and Steelers usually but that has a lot to do with familiarity.

I mean like, would you call AP the best RB in the NFL right now because he was at one point?

If he was producing near the same level he did in the past then yes but he's not

However I'll call Tom Brady the best QB in the NFL because he's producing the same if not better than he did in the past (that's an obvious one though)

For the record, Payton beat Harbaugh for the first time last year and by one point.
