    The rivalry is back on

McVay is definitely my #2. There’s a conversation about wanting to emulate what he’s doing that doesn’t exist with any other active HC besides Billy B

Okay so Sean Payton is a better offensive coordinator who better understands how to use all of his talent?

Like “those offenses don’t use TE” isn’t really an argument considering Payton is arguably the reason why some offenses have started understanding that position can be very dangerous

He was pretty solid in Seattle when he wasn't hurt?

I just don’t get why we are trying to
undercut Payton lol. His GM never drafts him a complete team, the defense usually sucks and the team is usually in cap hell struggling to keep veterans, especially on the O-line.

He still basically only has winning seasons and is still a dominant offensive strategist. The league still hasn’t caught up to the Saints’ offense and it’s been 13 years of Sean Payton. We like to throw out “oh he has weapons” but let’s be real, Kamara wouldn’t approach 2k total yards on an offense that wasn’t so good at integrating him.

To be fair, Payton did miss the playoffs 6 of 13 seasons and one of them he was destroyed by the 7-9 Seahawks.

    I still think he's a top 8 coach though.

I also reject the premise that saying "Jimmy Graham was good and talented most of his career" undercuts Payton lol

You say Graham isn't good now that he's in Green Bay yet he's better than any tight end in New Orleans since he left. Their tight end situation has been bad since he left. If it's Payton and his scheme, surely they could do better, no?

Payton is too busy blocking with 6OL and having Kamara juke LBs for 60 yards so

Every now and then I dream about us keeping Payton and watching him help Romo become even better than he was under Parcells' corpse/Phillips/Garrett... I bet he could have got a ring with him :(

Idk they got some key touchdowns out of like, a 35 year old Benjamin Watson recently. Their other guy has been Josh Hill who is VISIBLY slow / unathletic.

It could very obviously be both and Sean Payton could be intelligently adapting to knowing his TEs aren't as good rather than forcing something that won't work with lesser talent

It's weird how coaches and others still get the "he's a parcells guy" rub.

You know him being a Parcells guy is probably another reason for his attitude, it's inherited haha

They got two touchdowns out of Ben Watson.
They had Coby Fleener too, who was FAR better with the Colts.

But if he's a tight end guru, naturally one would assume his tight ends would at least be as good as where they came from, no?

It's so fucking simple it's almost annoying to continue to argue

Graham was the best weapon while on the Saints so Sean Payton found a way to make him a top weapon

Fleener was not the best weapon while on the Saints so Sean Payton didn't bother utilizing him in the same way and instead used his much better WR talent

He's not a tight end guru, where is that coming from? He's good at scheming

You're making up the "position guru" talk, if he's guru of any position it's probably QB given Romo and Brees (but Brees was good before he got there so it's hard to argue that too)

This doesn’t change the fact that every weapon who gets featured by the Saints absolutely BLOWS UP. At some point it’s not just the talent it’s how it’s being used. I again bring up that I’m not sure there’s another offense in the whole NFL that gets that kind of production out of Alvin Kamara. The Saints are NOTORIOUSLY good at utilizing receiving backs.

Like when Sean Payton gets a new “toy” you can fully expect that player to get 10 TD and be near the top 5 in their position in yards

That’s not the case for anyone else except Andy Reid

Wasn't he like a bumfuck nowhere college hc before that though? I don't think parcells has that kind of attitude, I think he's just really dense and acts like a shitty boss to his assistants. Payton is more of a gloater, bragger and that isn't parcells style at all. If anything belichek has the most parcells swagger and coughlin did too. Payton seems like he has good relationships with players and coaches. They're unbareable in different ways haha

That kind of thing is why I'm always so high on Cowboys players that are successful or lead the league in anything because they're doing it in despite of Linehan and Garrett, hahaha

It's like a golf handicap having them draw up plays, lol
