I've been without wifi most of the week so I'm trying to catch up. First thing I watched was Jesse Williams' BET speech and his words and the reactions of the audience made me so emotional I was like that's it I should just stop here before anything ruins it. And then that curdled old carton of milk Justin Timberlake made his presence known. Dude says he's inspired by Jesse's speech and then when confronted with his own oppression pulls that "we're all the same" bs completely missing the point of the speech he praises smh how typical.

So glad Jesse had the platform to make his speech. His success makes me so happy

Local outlets haven't picked it up besides the one I cited (that is, the backstory, not the gunfight). So, I'm reserving judgment.

The Chief of Belleville PD is William Clay and he's a black man and a pretty popular public figure here in the area. I read an interview with him a while ago and thought he seemed like a really interesting guy. He touches on race and poverty quite a bit:

This is just down the street from where I live and about 100 yards from where I buy groceries. Commenters are justifying/slandering that the woman must have been buying drugs, which is complete dog shit. The area, while not particularly affluent, is not high-crime and the location of the crime was not a place where any person would rationally host drug sales.
