I’ve been thinking about trying stand up. Need/want to move to the city first

From what I have heard and seen, Minneapolis is the GOAT city for comedy

 

I’m also just gonna ignore all that Sonic porn cause no one has time for that at 10:51 on a Monday

 

For a bit I did and I just could not make it work. Like the amount of just showing up and eating dirt at 1am/2am you have to do just to survive long enough to get halfway decent unpaid spots is not possible while having children and being a good father. Did so much work and got 1 paid gig ever, and that 1 gig was due to a connection I had from music and not even from all that open mic work. Not worth it. I still write stuff for fun but am not gonna even bother trying to perform again.

Dallas is actually considered the top city outside of the big 3 (NYC/LA/Chicago) from what I've seen but having done the Dallas comedy scene for a bit I have a hard time believing it.

I would love to hear your standup stories some time in terms of bad crowds or anything

 

Worst performance was when my slot got pushed past the close of the venue so instead of going home I thought "hey I'll just do my set outside" so I did it and it was a disaster

 

Yeah. Time and a place, man. Lol

 

Best performance was opening for two guys from Trailer Park Boys during the 2015 NFL Draft and someone shouted out "EZEKIEL ELLIOTT!" when the Cowboys picked, and I made a bad joke like "He seems like he was born to be a Cowboy so he'll probably be arrested soon" and then like a week later he was investigated for domestic violence

That's not why it was the best show but it's quite the anecdote

I think coincidence since the crime had already happened but I am a psychic just for different reasons

 

Dude fuck that lol. I hate when they aren’t punctual about set times. Such a dick move when there’s a full sign-up sheet. People waiting for damn hours and staying up while tired just to be told they can’t perform, fuck that.

At least when I got signed up to open mic perform at 2:45 AM at Douglas Street Cafe in Nashville, they actually do stay open until everyone performs. Though parking was $9 an hour and it was 8 PM and no one would’ve stayed that late so I just dipped out lol
