I can't think of many lines outside of maybe one or two that feel like they're about "teenage love" tbh.

 

I think it's silly to assume these songs are insincere or that they don't mean a lot to the band.

Me either, some of the posts in here are just ridiculous and laughable. It's a great album.

I understand that - like I said, it's just the impression I get. It's how it feels to me. I could be entirely wrong - I really hope I am. But listening to those interviews and hearing Mark say how they were writing multiple songs a day in the studio - I find it hard to believe that the songs hold a deep meaning when they were penned so quickly.

 

I think it's probably no different in that sense from Dude Ranch, Enema, TOYPAJ, etc. Unless you're not a fan of those albums either? I know you compared this specifically to Untitled, but I don't know your thoughts on their earlier material.

 

I don't think there's a correlation between time spent writing and "meaning." Stream of conscious, for example, is extremely potent and meaningful. Some of the best (most meaningful to me) things I've ever written came from random notes I just threw into a text document in thirty seconds.

Keith Buckley wrote the entirety of the lyrics for the new ETID album in one night and that album is about all the dark shit he went through when his wife and daughter were both suffering severe medical complications.

Just because something happens quickly doesn't mean it's without meaning.

Also, you have to think that Mark and Matt have some sort of compilation of notes that they have written over time that they can come back and visit whenever...at least that's what I have haha.

 

What do his tweets have to do with his musicianship? I don't think anyone has claimed Tom "made the band" because of his online presence...
