I've hit around 200 hours on Binding of Issac and feel like I have so much fucking more to unlock.

 

I think Odyssey, Galaxy 2 and 64 are just about the same level, all with their own strengths. But every 3D Mario is amazing, including 3D Land and World.

 

Sunshine has a lot of haters, always had. So did Wind Waker early on, but that went away mostly.

 

I really think it needs to be stressed/marveled at that there has never been a bad 3D Mario game.

And yeah I've previously gone on the record as really wanting a 3D World 2. Would actually love it if that came out next.

 

I disagree which is why Sunshine is my favorite despite its flaws, but as far as the Sand Kingdom in particular goes I think it was a homage to those kind of platformers, like Sunshine, but also Banjo. Most other Odyssey levels were a lot tighter, or more densely filled.

 

i agree with Odyssey being largely more dense than Sand Kingdom but i think Mario 64 was like the perfect balance of scale. i do love the hell out of Banjo though but i cant look at that one objectively it's such a big part of my gaming love.

this reminds me i really need to play Yooka Laylee

I waited for the Switch version and apparently the port is bad so I’ll just never play it now probably lol

Not a huge Banjo fan anyway though, but I do love 3D platformers

 

Yooka Laylee has a wild looking 64 bit mode now

I backed it on Kickstarter and liked it fine when it launched but I kind of put it down and never picked it back up. I should though and see if it's been improved at all since I last played it.

I agree. Sunshine is definitely the best unfinished Mario game.

Edit: also that wasn't really a dig at people who like Sunshine, just the game itself which has been stated in many ways to have been an unfinished game. There was a lot of polish left to do, but clearly ran out of time.

That being said, I actually like Sunshine.

Agreed. Donkey Kong 64 is just a bad, bad game.

 

I watched a video a while back that talked about all that was wrong with DK64 and a big point was the unnecessary collecting you had to do.
