The line about paintings by Marilyn Manson in The Only Thing That Matters is THE most Matt Skiba line Matt Skiba has ever written. I love it!

I still can't believe Matt Skiba and Mark Hoppus made a record together. Such a dream come true for me haha.

FWIW anyone who got upset earlier about the Trigger Warning comment should be actively protesting the album because of Brohemian. Instead we're getting a lot of "I'm just ignoring it"...in other words just ignoring and thus perpetuating the culture that leads to the necessity of trigger warnings.

And any argument against the above is a poor one, plain and simple. I really hope individuals like Jason make a point of this in their album reviews/commentaries...

Did they really rip off reel big fish or is that an intentional reference?

You hit the nail on the head, my friend. Self-titled was the first album I ever heard where one group of songs felt so vastly different, yet came together in such a cohesive way. I'll admit, part of my love for the record now probably stems from nostalgia. But I feel like this record can't be beat. Probably my favorite record of all time.

Why is nostalgia coming off as such a bad thing.
Surely this means albums we are completely in love with now in ten years time are just going to be passed off as nostalgia in 2026 as "oh you only like it cause of nostalgia". Seems strange.

I think the only song on here I didn't immediately like was "Sober." For some reason the slight pause when he says "When I'm sober" sounded odd, like it was forced to fit or something. But that song grew on me fast, and it doesn't sound out of place at all anymore. I actually like the song a lot.

  11. I don't think anyone said it was a bad thing ...

Was finally able to give this the all important car test, where I have my best speakers. Holy shit, even the songs I'm less fond of I can't help but find myself jamming out too. This whole album is sooooo fun to sing along too. I can't wait for some road trips with this baby.

Also, that comment in that magazine about "Left Alone" being vintage Travis Barker drumming is spot on. I want to air drum to that bizzitch so hard.

Glad we share this opinion. I've always thought TBS wasn't that good after Louder Now. Their only album i can listen without skipping a track is their first one. Not even having John Nolan back helped them make a decent album.

1.) Dude Ranch - My first introduction to Blink in 5th grade when my mom bought this album in 1997. Was a game changer for me as kid. I also remember going to see "Can't Hardly Wait" the last day of school with friends and being pumped to hear Dammit in the movie.

2.) TOYPAJ - Nostalgia puts this at number 2 for me. That awkward transition from middle school through high school, parents saying "no" all the damn time, Hanging out at house parties, doing stupid stuff at the beach, as a freshmen making out with my senior crush while Reckless Abandon played in the car. Good times.

3.) Enema - I listened to this through middle-school mainly, never hit me like Dude Ranch did, but I would get pumped up before school dances by listening to Mutt and imagining who I was going to slow dance with and possibly ask to be my girlfriend. ha...

4.) California - Its new, and its here because it puts a smile on my face and makes life feel awesome. Its still early, but I can see this trumping Enema.....maybe.

5.) Chesire Cat - Carousel is my favorite song of all time and the first song I taught myself on guitar in 7th grade.

6.) Self-Titled - Always enjoyed this album, a little too dark and never really dug the production on the cd, but I had too high of expectations for this album after being obsessed with Box Car Racer. I was let down when it first came out.

7.) Neighborhoods - Some cool stuff on here, but it didn't leave me with anything other than..."That song is aight".

Know this will be an unpopular opinion. Don't like hearing marks voice as often as I do in this one. It's not clicking with me. After a couple listens no songs really bring me back. Glad the majority on here seem to appreciate it though

The 2nd verse of "The Only Thing That Matters" is the most Skiba thing on this album.

Now I Know This World Isn’t Spinning Just For Me Prestigious

Woke up to an email that my preorder of California has shipped via priority usps. Great message to wake up to. Although this early on the week I wonder if I'll 'accidentally' get it early

  23. You know, maybe it's the fact that I'm currently in a hotel in Cleveland, neck-deep in a drive from New Jersey to California and this is hitting me at the right time (or maybe just the fact that I always loved Green Day more than blink) but I really think this is my favorite blink album at the moment. I couldn't care less about co-writes, studio tweaks, or whatever; these songs are just so damn well written and they succeeded so hard at capturing that careless, pop-punk summer feel. Matt Mark and Travis feel way more like a complete unit on these songs than post-hiatus Mark Tom and Travis did, and this whole thing feels like exactly what Mark has wanted since they reunited. I don't know. Surprised at how much I love this.

When was the last time a pop-punk album truly resonated with me on this level? Maybe The Greatest Generation? Not sure, but I'm happy.
