Oathbreaker definitely played TIHC in the past. And at least a couple bands this year are coming in from Japan this year. I doubt Hirs would play considering their label made an IG post against the fest but musically they’d be a good fit. But yeah there’s certainly a ton of great diverse acts out that could be on the lineup.

yeah, i just listed as many bands as I could think of off the top of my head, no clue who has played or who might be a realistic choice. i think someone who's more up to date on what's what in hardcore could come up with a much better list, but it sure feels as though there's definitely a decent chunk of punk/hc bands i've discovered over the last little bit that have women in them so I don't think it's a lack of good bands.

    also *razorbumps not razorbites lol

big bite and firewalker are two other cool ones too.

any 40+ year old dude that unironically goes by the name Joe Hardcore is probably not to be trusted in the first place

  6. East coast hardcore is not an accepting place, full stop. Shows are dangerous, abusive people are elevated in the name of loyalty, figureheads like Joe Hardcore and his ilk basically make the rules. There is no accountability process for bands like Regulate or Heavy Chains because it’s all about who knows who and who is or isn’t talking shit. I’ve known a lot of great people in the hardcore scene in NJ but the scene itself is insular and dangerous, particularly for marginalized folks.

In addition to the ones you listed on your list, I just want to thrown the following into the ring:

    Watchdogs - Sanguinary, by Watchdogs
Hatred Surge - EP, by Hatred Surge
Exit Order - Seed Of Hysteria, by Exit Order
Leather Daddy - Leather Daddy s/t 7", by Leather Daddy
Torso - Build and Break, by TORSO
Bleed the Pigs - Bleed the Pigs
Despise You - no one bandcamp
    Sick Shit - SICK SHIT
No Man - DEVILS CAST LONG SHADOWS, by NØ MAN
Amygdala - Our Voices Will Soar Forever, by Amygdala
Wildspeaker - Spreading Adder, by Wildspeaker
Result of Choice - Through My Eyes, by Result of Choice
    Truth Cult - https://truthcultband.bandcamp.com/
Triage - POWER BEAT 7", by Triage
    xABRUPTx - xABRUPTx

    Escuela - Escuela Grind
    Cloud Rat - Cloud Rat
Closet Witch - Closet Witch, by Closet Witch
Transient - Sources Of Human Satisfaction, by Transient
    fluoride - disentanglement, by fluoride

All of these bands are all over the place sonically, but they're all at least somewhat rooted in HC and blow half of the bands on the TIHC lineup out of the water.

Oh sick. Bleed the Pigs (RIP I think?), despise you, amygdala are all sick. Didn't know goolagoon had female members (insert sandy cheeks joke?), but seeing them at TIHC would be a rip. I'll check out some of the other names, I haven't heard of many of these

  15. The phrase "twice as good for half as much" always comes to mind during these conversations. Nobody should stan a band they're not interested in - but I can't help but wonder what the world would be like if men in bands had to be as groundbreaking as women in bands are supposed to be in order to merit attention or success.

Because a lot of the bands doing the damn thing out there (all dudes) wouldn't stand a chance if they were held to that same standard. It's not news to anyone in here that male musicians generally get to represent themselves instead of their gender; but if we're being honest, that's true and THEN they're held to a gentler standard despite the fact that everything about becoming a musician is geared towards their comfort and acceptance, whereas (most, especially nonwhite) women have to be next level talented even to get considered for a spot at the table.

I don't see anyone in here saying anything that makes me bring this up, btw. Good discourse happening. I'm just bummed about it today.

I think lot about this with Ed Sheeran, not that talented and also his image is gross and meh and he's huge, I feel bad talking about his looks but every female pop star has to be unbelievably attractive and it's a bummer

    hey you lil piss baby

SYSC is also signed to Pure Noise, who, if I remember correctly, were adamant in backing that Front Porch piece of shit (please correct me if I have my details mixed up).

But that also raises a whole bunch of other issues about bands that get widely praised around here and are signed to that label. It’s important to not just call out/boycott/etc the abusrrs themselves, but also those who continue to align themselves with those people.

    performative angry black man Prestigious

I left a band I was fronting some months ago. I wrote an album about my experience as a gay black cisman, and how those experiences relate to capital as well as my religious views. I pitched a controversial album cover and they felt like my point was that I was calling them and all white people racist. They then gaslighted me saying they couldn't trust my behavior any longer as if not showing up to practice after communicating I needed space was the real issue. This has ruined music for me almost completely. This all happened within 4 days of us finishing our debut record. I deleted my social media accounts. I hate that white men run the punk scene. In retrospect there were so many warning signs about things that were said about politics in general. I am mad and permanently distrustful of the scene and those in its intentions. I don't feel like naming names but I want my unbridled passion for music back. Marginalized kids deserve so much better FUCK

Oh is this like NARE or US emo shit? I remember their singer was pretty prolific in those groups when I was there circa 2012ish- she still shows up in my mutual friends suggestions on fb because of those groups. Those groups are vile and toxic and I'm not really surprised that bands that are getting hype right now where shitty internet trolls a few years back

    relentlessly nosy bastard

I come back to his thread once a month when I'm bored and honestly it just reminds me how right of a decision for myself it was to give up the DIY scene/my music fandom at large. When I remember how involved and how into music I was I just can't remember why I ever bothered anymore. Plus, shows had started making me anxious because I didn't feel like I could trust anyone there. I remember not wanting to be another story about someone who was driven away from the scene but the pinegrove shit really did it for me I think. Cleaned out 2/3rds of my music library, donated and sold half my records and I have lots more money left over now from not going to shows. Sometimes the healthiest thing you can do for yourself is just to walk away. I really admire everybody here who has enough passion and faith to carry on.

Do you have the finished album? It might be tainted but that's an interesting wrinkle of actually has the music in their possession if it is finished.

More importantly, this sucks, but this is not the end. This is like a sunk cost, you put a bunch of time and effort into bandmates who never had your back fully and who doubted your vision instead of complimented and enhanced it. That's a draining experience, but you also have to know that people who understand your message and respect your perspective are out there, people that can push you in bolder directions instead of trying to water you down or hold you back. It might be hard but you gotta find those people.

Being in a band sucks a lot of the time, and that's just for like logistics like actually meeting and getting stuff done reasons. Being in a band that doesn't have a shared vision or purpose is like a special kind of torture.
