Also, maybe it's partly because I'm a sucker for ballads and partly because I was born in California and have a lot of fond memories from there, but the closing track is an immediate hit for me. Holy shit, nearly had me in tears listening for the first time. I can tell I'm going to love that song. And Mark's vocals on it are excellent.

Hahahaha. So one of my coworkers, who is mainly a hip hop and R&B type listener, I showed him Bored to Death, No Future and Rabbit Hole. He comes in the next day, Rabbit Hole is now his ringtone and he preordered California. The Blink is spreading

I found this pretty boring after the first two songs, I think Enema and TOYPAJ are better albums than this but I don't think they're all that different in terms of quality and I feel like most fans who wanted a return to that kind of fun pop punk sound should be pleased with this. I was never a big fan of those albums to begin with though so I don't think I'll really get much out of this. I definitely don't think it's as bad as some die hard blink fans seem to be saying though, and it definitely feels like a blink-182 album to me, more so than Neighbourhoods or DED. That said I definitely prefer those two to this, especially DED. This album makes me wish they had got some kind of producer for those albums though, ha.

"Left Alone" and "San Diego" were probably my favourites other than the first two songs.

Someone on reddit said they definitely prefer Neighborhoods, but if the production was better, MAYBE California would have a chance. And another actually said Tom's "An Endless Summer" was better than everything on California but Cynical and BTD....I just can't even believe these are real thoughts. Maybe enjoying a song over another, sure, but I just can't really see there being a legitimate argument saying Neighborhoods has better production than this new album, at all. Haha.

Yeah I like Neighbourhoods more but the production on California is easily better.

Resurrection got better with every listen for me. Vicious love with Hailey is one of their best songs, period.

So are we ready for the lists? Has it happened and I missed it?

    1. Dude ranch
    2. Enema
    3. Toypaj
    4. Mark Tom and Travis show (because of man overboard)
    5. California
    6. Untitled
    7. Def
    8. Neighborhoods

With more listens maybe...maybe....California goes into the top 3.

I wasn't sure about San Diego at first, but now I can't stop listening to it...Mark echoing Matt is incredible! I love songs where Mark comes in to harmonize...probably the only reason why I like Ghost On The Dance Floor.

Also. I like Neighborhoods, but it is my least favorite Blink album.

Revisiting some Neighborhoods stuff now and I'm just glad every song on here is better than "Heart's All Gone" and "MH".

  12. I think the best song on there is "After Midnight" and I still would take almost everything on here over that one song, and, the album as a whole makes that even more apparent. If I had to decide: no more "After Midnight" or no more "Sober" or "Home.." I'd give up AM if I had to. Thankfully, I don't have to. But I would.

  13. Counter argument: California feels like a cohesive whole, Neighborhoods feels like a patchworked costume.

I agree with this too. Plus as I said earlier nothing on California is as bad as the lows on Neighborhoods.

Really? I don't think it's that weird at all. I like listening to Enema way more than I like Neighborhoods. I prefer Untitled to Dude Ranch. But I like Dude Ranch more than Cheshire Cat. And then there is TOYPAJ which I like more than Neighborhoods but less than Enema.

I would argue it would be weird if California didn't fall into this equation some how. If I were to be forced to rank the 7 or 8 Blink albums, this one would probably end up in my bottom three. Gasp! I said it.

Does this help you to understand?

    Edit
I removed a joke about trigger warnings because it was suggested to me that it broke forum rules. Because I've been quoted on this here is the original paragraph that I changed.

I would argue it would be weird if California didn't fall into this equation some how. And I can tell it really upsets you so here's your trigger warning... If I were to be forced to rank the 7 or 8 Blink albums, this one would probably end up in my bottom three. Gasp! I said it.

Switch California and Enema then add Dogs Eating Dogs above Neighborhoods and you have mine.

I actually was wondering, didn't you also like Hearts all Gone and Natives when it first came out? I may be mistaken on that.

  20. I like quite a few songs on that album by themselves. (The ones with less Tom have aged better.)

I agree. Now the question is. If you had to listen to the Tom heavy neighborhoods songs, or TBS Happiness Is...which one do you pick? Lol

I actually genuinely enjoyed Neighborhoods, and still do every now and then - to an extent. That album, like every blink album for me, gave me the same giddy, stupid, big idiot that can't stop smiling reaction that they all have when I heard it all the way through for the first time. I still really appreciate most of the songwriting on that record, it's just the production and awkwardness at times that bothered me about it in the long run. 9 or 10 songs still standout on there for me and After Midnight, Kaleidoscope, Natives and Wishing Well are some of my favorites post reunion, even now. That said, I absolutely LOVE California. I love how poppy and upbeat and huge it all sounds. I love Mark and Matt together and cannot wait to hear more from this lineup, or whatever lineup we may get in the future depending on how fucking weird Tom is going to be about all of this.

I remember them saying 4 of the songs were written or recorded in the same room together and they confirmed After Midnight as one. Anyone know what the other three were? I'd guess maybe UAN and GOTDF
