Said I'm okay, but I know how to lie.

Snares on "Sober" and "Built This Pool" are awfully mixed.
    Only criticism.
    I love this record.

Please don't release "Left Alone" as a single. I think it's the "Asthenia" of California, a deeper cut a lot of fans will love.

Every time someone mentions as Left Alone as a standout I get confused. I love almost all of this record (Played it about 20 times so far) but that song is the one that I glaze over and if you asked me to tell you how it goes I couldn't name a single part. I'm not even avoiding, i literally just can't remember it.

I'd also call Left Alone a standout.

Do y'all think it's bizarre that they haven't addressed the leak? I think it's kinda dumb to just have your head in the sand and act like it didn't happen.. They should put up an official stream, what's the hold up

Edit: lol like i would at least expect Mark to tweet something out like "Does anyone know where I can download the new blink album?!"

At this point, would it matter? The people that want to listen to it more than likely have the leak already, and I extremely doubt that people who are waiting for it to come out will listen to a stream if they are planning on waiting anyway.

  8. There's not really any reason to address a leak 7 days early. Why say anything at all and draw attention to it? Let people talk about it, finish up your final week and push of promo, and knock that first week sales out of the park. There's no benefit of addressing a leak in 2016 a week out, piracy isn't what it was now that streaming is so prevalent.

All of you Rabbit Hole haters are gonna have to buckle up for this one. Mark told NME that Rabbit Hole will "Never be a single, but it's probably a song we'll play live for the rest of our lives".

Nah major label's have a strong history of doing that exact thing.

  10. "Left Alone" is the album's "Wendy Clear"/"Every time I Look" a soon to be fan-favorite deeper cut.

Cool little tidbit about Cynical. That grunt after the drum roll starts is Travis after fucking up the track.

I like that Travis' voice is on the record, and that Matt and Mark sing together on every track. I feel like this is the most "unified" blink-182 has sounded in a long, long time.

This album makes me think I never gave Mark the songwriting credit he deserved, especially hearing songs like Home and California.

I like this significantly more than the +44 record. I don't know if it's Feldmann or Skiba, but someone reallllly brought out the best in Mark. I don't know where this sits relative to Blink's discography, and I'll probably never even try to rank it because I can't do it objectively in the slightest, but I'm definitely happy and will be playing this all summer long just like I did with TOYPAJ.

First of all, NFG has not made any "shitty" albums. Second, while a few of the albums may be a little similar, i think some of them also offer a little variety.

I think California is great and their best since the Untitled record. I can't wait to get my vinyl copy and see all the artwork and everything.

We talk too much / We talk in circles

Everybody needs to stop harping over the Na Na Nas and Oh Oh Ohs when "vocalizing" is not a matter of laziness. To vocalize means you're performing the melody like an instrument would, only with your voice. You're supposed to use non-words or vowel sounds because it's about the melody, NOT the lyric.

On California, Matt is a rhythm guitar player whose tracks function like a bass player would in most bands. He's the backbone of each song which gives Mark and Travis more space to move around via their instruments in any given section. You can tell from the mix that the guitar is not supposed to be at the forefront of most songs.

And since Matt does not have lead guitar chops, Feldmann used Matt and Mark's vocals as lead instruments in order to make up for the lack of lead guitar.

Tom is a cross between a rhythm and lead guitarist. That's why he loved arpeggios because he could keep the rhythm going via root notes while playing something melodic on the higher strings (e.g. What's My Age Again?). So, during Tom's era, they didn't have to rely on vocalizing as much since his guitar could pick up the slack as needed.

Vocalizing is also a staple in pop music so for a pop-punk band that performs as a three-piece, it makes sense that you would use the tools that you have at your disposal. Feldmann could've easily had somebody else track a ton of lead guitar parts for these songs, only somebody would have to play them off-stage during live shows. That opens up another can of worms entirely. It's one thing to have a backing track, like they had at Firefly, but having somebody play lead parts off-stage is much lamer than vocalizing.

Anyway, I'm tired of people saying that Feldmann was rushing them. This was a way to define the song's melody when you don't have a lead guitarist (or a player who can vacillate back and forth). This was the lesser of two evils. You wouldn't want a bunch of songs that fail to translate live because they piled on too many lead tracks in the studio. Plus, it gives the crowd the opportunity to sing-along even more. Feldmann said he loved nursery rhymes after all.

Take a song like "Sober." You could easily have a lead guitar part in that opening Na Na Na part as well as the rest of the song's choruses. But how would you accomplish that live without having to stop playing the thick rhythm chords underneath it? That's where vocalizing is necessary. You could have a backing track play the rhythm part as Matt attempts to play the lead part but we know that isn't his strength. So, why bother? And as I said, you don't want somebody playing lead guitar off-stage. That's sacrilege.

Feldmann could've gone overboard with lead guitar, but he didn't for sake of the live performance. He also didn't force Matt to be someone he isn't. Vocalizing is proof.

Na Na Na. Na Na Na.
