  1. I spent the last 6 years living in Southern California (Orange County, specifically) and I honestly hated living there at first. After having moved away and back home to the PNW, there are some things that I don't think I understood or appreciated well enough while I was there. This record, especially the title track, really hit me hard emotionally as I've been processing all of this.

All of this is to say that I'm really happy blink are back with this record. It's not perfect, but it's just what I needed.

  2. Interesting. Things like the lyrical content and the hand claps scream "crossover" to me. I feel like I can already hear the remix, haha. Really dislike SOOHM so maybe my bias is interfering with my prediction.

i dont think im too good for this band at all, they just havnt grabbed me with their past couple releases. if i thought i was too good for this band, i wouldnt even listening to the entire record. I would just have an attitude of like "Well that new blink record probably sucks because they were just that goofy band i listened to in my early teens"... i sincerely wanted to enjoy this record, and im sorry if it came off any other way. it just simply didnt live up to what i hoped it would be. Which, is fine, this is their music and it isnt about me or anyone but them. and once again, i am stoked that so many people seem to be enjoying this. Anything i was posting wasnt meant to have any under-lying message of "ive matured past this". Im not too good for anything, thats bogus if anyone has that attitude. i really really want to love a new Blink-182 album. but, i dont.

Yeah, agree with this. Hate these kinds of posts. The "I've outgrown this band"/"Can't imagine this band making music I'd like in 2016" posts really bother me. Seen those for blink. Seen those for Yellowcard. Definitely saw a fair few for All Time Low last year. Like, good for you? I'm glad your taste is so "cultured" now? It's just weird to me. You can keep a place in your heart for the bands you used to love even as your music tastes grow and change. Can't think of a single band I ever loved where I would feel "above" enjoying their new album--even if that enjoyment was mostly derived from nostalgia.

i dont think its self-righteous when a band has put out a couple records you just flat out dont enjoy to say something like "well this band just isnt doing it for me anymore". i dont think there is any sense of trying too "rise above" anyone else in some higher taste in music. i never said that i thought i was too mature for this band - i just dont like this album, which is fine.

Speaking of Tom, I always liked his songs more too, but I don't miss him on this one.

but anyway, ive made my thoughts on the record in this thread and i dont want to keep posting about how i dont like it. that is just dumb. once again, its exciting people are enjoying this record. i have no intention of trying to put a damper on that, so i probably wont post much more on the matter unless it starts to warm up to me on repeated listens.

again, im sorry if i came off the wrong way. honestly i was just trying to express how i felt about the album and i wasnt trying to boost myself above anyone, i am really not about that.

  9. To get the kind of traction a band like Blink would need in 2016 to make that move, they're gonna need that song ... everywhere. I don't think the lyrical content gets it added to the right playlists. That song's not coming on when you're browsing around Walmart for example. Haha, I think "Sober" would be a great Alt Radio play. But that there's too much going on to get it passed that and in the right places for the penetration it'd need.

My post was less directed at you and more speaking broadly about a trend I've seen other places on the site.

Right there with you. Tbh, I basically stopped enjoying his work right around Angels and Airwaves' first album. But I didn't mind him as much on the last two blink releases -- I just knew they needed something fresh and new that didn't have that Tom-brand on it. And this is it since Skiba crushes it.

The production isn't perfect at all and I think Feldmann ethos of rushing things has a lot to do with the lazy amount of "na na nas", "oh oh oh" (they only made sense in half of the cases, imo), etc. For example, the "na na nas" in "No Future" kill the melancholic vibe of the song, they are totally out of place.

Still, the one complaint I don't get is people who loved their other albums saying the production is too glossy or that the voices sound too processed. That is literally how they have sounded every time since EOTS (except for Neighborhoods).

Im so tired of Jerry Finn and Untitled being brought up when talking about California. I'm not referring to this forum specifically. Just internet. Ugh. Back when I heard Untitled for the first time in '03, if you would have told me blink fans would be praising Untitled like it was Nirvana's Nevermind 13 years later, I would never have believed it.

One argument I'm kind of annoyed about is when people say to not complain about the na nas here because it's in 90% of blink's discog. I just did a quick check and it's only on two songs from Enema. I don't mind the Na nas but they really weren't thaaaat frequent in their old work. Maybe 2-3 songs per album.

  16. I think an album needs to have a sense of finality and brohemien rhapsody ruins that. San Diego would be a fine closer. Curious as to their thought process to put that song last. If you have to throw that song on the album, put it somewhere else.

I'm loving the album though. At this point in my life, I just want some catchy as hell tunes and this album delivers.

its crazy to think that I've only had the album for 2 days and have exhausted myself on opinions, etc. I need to step back and listen to it in a couple days. I do agree with what Jason said about 60% of the fans not feeling this eventually coming around, I think I'm on that boat. I mean, I remember not liking Untitled when it came out and ended up praising that album shamelessly. Same with Neighobrhoods, everyone loved it at first and it seems a majority of people didn't like it so much after the hype went down (I was and am still a fan of that album). Blink fans are passionate people, which, whether I agree or disagree with people, I love that there's this community to talk about it so often. But yeah I think it just needs time to settle with everyone.

I'm not hugely invested in "vintage blink", I'm expecting to like this album about as much as Enema honestly. My favourite blink releases are the untitled and DED which are like 80% Tom, ha. He is a strange case though, most of the things about his voice I would kind of hate if it was someone else.

  20. And to take that a little further, I think that there's a part of rockism that creeps in. But, yeah. I dunno. When people use words like "regress" and stuff like that I just end up rolling my eyes. I'll be the first to admit that my tastes have changed, and moved away from pop-punk, over the past 5+ years. But that's mostly because I don't think the bands doing it are very good. I think The Story So Far sucks, Real Friends and State Champs are unlistenable. But if bands do it really well, I still really like it. That's why every now and again a band will pop-up and catch my ear. I think even with a changing of tastes if you ever liked a certain kind of music, part of that never really leaves you. It just kinda sits dormant for a while. Until you hear the right combination again.

I really love this album. There's just a two or three songs that are awful, specially the last one.

Alright, so I've been listening to this album a lot since it leaked. And it's weird, I've got some feelings about it. First off I want to say that I do like it, and there's some songs that I like a lot. Los Angeles, Cynical, TOTM. Every one on this record did a great job and it just sounds really good. It's a ton of fun. I'm happy this album exists, I'm happy that blink is still active in 2016. But for me, it's missing something. It's missing Tom. Although Skiba is one of my favorite songwriters, and Mark is kicking butt on this record, Tom really makes blink for me and without him it's just not doing what it used to for me. I really wish I could have a new Mark, Tom and Travis record but unfortunately that's just not possible right now. So I'm enjoying it for what it is , but at the same time it's hard not think of what could have been.

I don't understand where people come in with the "these songs sound like any other pop punk band wrote them." Real Friends couldn't even imagine writing a hook as good as Teenage Satellites, Bored to Death, Kings of The Weekend, or She's Out of Her Mind.

Granted they aren't trying to go far in that direction, but they obviously want to write catchy material for people to sing at their shows.

Also, I was one of the people at first that was saying that lyrically they took a step back on this one, but after combing through EOTS and onward, this is lyrically on par with everything they've ever written.
