What is wrong with reddit? Those guys find tons of reasons to complain.

Jason, thanks for keeping this community you started so long ago alive. Without AbsolutePunk and Chorus, we'd probably all be on Reddit and we'd either be bigger jerks, or we'd just have nowhere to go to have civil discussions on stuff we care about.

"I’m confused because everyone who dislikes this song is labeled a hater. I call bullshit. Here’s why:

1) I don’t care about 40 something’s writing about their youth, but do it well like on “Cliff Diving.” I don’t even believe the lyrics of this song, especially when 6 fucking people are credited as lyricists, which brings me to my next point.

2) I know that in 2019, if you so much as fart in the recording studio, you earn a songwriting credit, but it’s still bullshit. Why do Mark Hoppus and Matt Skiba, two proven amazing lyricists need to listen to anyone else when it comes to lyrics? Not to mention, a shitty teenage garage band could have easily penned these same words.

3) This isn’t rock, it isn’t pop punk, it isn’t alternative rock. It’s pop. Pure and simple. The guitars sound programmed, and the drums (played by one of the greatest living percussionists) could have easily been sampled to sound the same way. What a waste of a talent.

4) Finally, I’d like to address the sound change argument. Yes, bands have to change. All the great ones have. But to have created a sonic masterpiece like untitled and follow it up with this 16 years later is not evolution. It’s devolution.

I’ve been a Blink fan since 2002. I always defended them no matter what they put out because it felt real. This doesn’t feel real. It feels manufactured, soulless, and empty. Just my two cents. I guess that makes me a hater..."

Any time I try to use Reddit I cannot even figure it out. The comments all post is sporadic ways and I have no idea how to even view anything. I'm only 25 but maybe I am too old?

 

The amount of energy people put into explaining and justifying why they don’t like a song or album is absolutely astonishing.

 

The internet needs an autocorrect for any long negative post that just changes everything to "not for me"

 

That is such an exemplary look at how Reddit has mastered the art of appearing neutral or even "enlightened" by making false concessions.

[While I agree that X is true], this time, X is not true.

But I AM NOT A HATER. How could I be - I said I agree X is true!!

I wonder if people could articulate what they wanted from Blink, what they would want it to sound like.

These are some snapshots from an AVA FB group I follow in case y’all needed some intellectual hot takes!

 

I’m mostly plexed by now badly they do it though. A whole lot of words that don’t actually say anything.

 

They’re getting better at writing about their disaffected adolescence. A whole lot better than Kings of the Weekend, Teenage Satellite, Parking Lot, etc. It’s still a subject matter that I feel is beyond tired for them at this point.

Musically it sounds like a progression of the sound they were going for in Left Alone, which is my favorite song on California so that’s cool!

 

Like 80% of the complaints the last three years (might be a low estimate) were LITERALLY THINGS THAT APPLIED TO BLINK'S WHOLE CAREER haha

 

They would hate me, I love the poppy end of Sum 41!
