this was maybe already discussed: did Gendry refer to himself as Rivers last night? wouldn't his surname be Waters? (I guess they haven't established all the bastard surnames so this is just being nitpicky, but whatever)

I saw some discussion about this and it seems like Gendry’s name is kind of murky, but Rivers wouldn’t be it under any of the possible options to take.

Gendry was never known to be a bastard until Mel told him.

It would have made more sense for him to make a comment about not even having a name at all before this and now suddenly having not only that but a title. Even if that title was given by someone with absolutely no power to do so.

Oh, yeah, I didn't catch that, but you're right. Gendry is sort of an odd case, because he wasn't born in the Stormlands, where the Baratheons rule. He's born to Robert presumably in King's Landing, which would make him a Waters based on geography. If going by where the Baratheon's ancestral home would be, the Stormlands, he'd be a Storm. Rivers is the name for the Riverlands (aka, Riverrun/House Tully and Frey), so him being Gendry Rivers makes literally zero sense. He wasn't recognized as a bastard until Stannis and Mel told him of his father, so prior to that he wouldn't have one of the bastard surnames at all

It seems like a moment meant to shout out the book readers but they whiffed it. Lol. Nothing wrong with simplifying naming rules of course, but him just having no idea what he would be called seems much more in character.

Too bad all the amazing people who could teach him to read and write are dead now. Except wait..... maybe Gendry will be the child Davos runs off with and he will get to pass on what he learned. I have to go cry now.

    Thoughts!

    - Jon’s speech was very moving
    - Tormund going away with that super young looking girl was a little uncomfortable..
    - We cut away from Bran telling Arya and Sansa wth!!
    - I don’t like Bronn now, I will not weep for him if he dies. Jamie was right, a cutthroat like him doesn’t deserve highgarden
    - not gonna lie though not knowing what’s gonna happen made the Bronn scene a lot more intense. I literally jumped when Bronn fired a warning shot at Jamie.
    - Arya gonna also kill Cersei? I don’t see that happening at all, I don’t see Arya surviving..or the Hound. But whatever happens with them as long as they’re together it’ll be good!
    - Jon’s distant non goodbye to Ghost sucked. But honestly I felt like Sam also deserved a slightly more heartfelt goodbye. Like Jon turned away from them a bit too fast but maybe that’s just the editing idk.
    - it does seem like Jon is not coming back from KL. Sansa talking about how stark men don’t do well in the south felt like alarms going off. I can definitely see the next episode mirroring The mad king burning the starks/“burn them all!”/Jamie’s knife in the back
    - What the f Rhagal got hit with an bolt out of nowhere OMG NOOO
    - They really really should have been more prepared for Euron, but the sequence following Tyrion was pretty cool
    - I’m wondering if Yara is gonna come back into play this season, she’d be the best person to take out Euron
    - Hoping Bran has something else up his sleeve this season..
    - For a second I was freaking out the episode would end with Cersei killing Tyrion..
    - Poor Missandei :(
    - Cersei is truly a monster next episode is gonna be vicious

also, is it too early for us to discuss what we think the final scene will be?

will it take place in current time or do a "one year / five year / ten years later" thing?

will be it be vague as hell?

will there be anything after the credits?

    any bets / feelings?

lastly, i don't think Dany snaps. they played that up all episode but i wonder if that's a swerve and she comes out with a smart, logical plan that is seen as smart and logical and everyone's like, "whoa, no Mad Queen" or whatever and people embrace her as Queen and her and Sansa split the realm (or at least the north or something).

I think Dany probably dies and honestly wouldn't be surprised if it happened on next weeks ep

I can see a time jump happening with a newer generation. Perhaps the kids of whoever is on the throne and the last scene will be something subtle focused on the next heir of the throne doing something alluding to something along the lines of “history will always repeat itself”

Yeah I can see Dany surprising us swaying the audience to think that maybe she does deserve to rule after all!

    ..but then she dies.

I think we’re gonna see her snap and then pull herself together later/at a turning point in the plot but subsequently die at some point thereafter. Super vague right I hold firm to these beliefs.

  16. I believe there’s still two characters (according to the casting list from over a year ago) that we haven’t seen at all yet

Doing a time jump at this stage of the game would suck so much lol no thank you

Empty throne? Sam closing the book? Unlike Lost, I can’t come up with a final shot that seems completely destined to happen. I sort of can’t see it being just a shot of a particular character, but a lot of that possibility depends on what happens before we even get there.

Theories on what Euron was staring at in the preview? He clearly had a look of concern on his face and obviously it would relate to the dragon but I don’t know why he would have that look if it was *just* the dragon

Her suddenly being calm and collected and logical after this episode when now her nerves will be even more frayed and her emotions even higher would be hard to digest.

I think they played up Jon dying more than Dany with all the 'final goodbyes' and such, which makes me think he's more likely to survive now.

The problem with the rushed storyline is there's so much less clues/hints/foreshadowing going on because, to quote Bran, we don't have time for it. So it kinda leaves you just guessing in the dark.

IDK if Dany dies next week (i'm still on the she dies train)....I think it's more likely she does some extremely fucked up shit only to be killed/murdered in the season finale for it. But I would also like to see the scenario I laid out where she's going all MAd Queen and goes to Dracarys Cersei but cersei has set up a pile of wildfire near by that results in a huge explosion that engulfs them both and kills Dany.

Of course this means Drogon would die too so uhh please no.

I think it was Drogon but he was just freaked out because he could hear him but couldn't see him. Dany learning from her mistakes and having Drogon stay out of sight until the last second.

Really hope he burns the shit out of Euron. BURN THEM ALL

  23. Seen someone say speculate it’s Yara’s fleet and the preview just throws you off and I’ve seen someone speculate it’s Drogon wearing armor. (Idk where the fuck she’d get armor)

I understand that Jon's parentage was always going to create a conflict, but I think this possible heel turn for Dany feels kind of rushed. One of them gotta die though
