Every song Tom puts out sounds like he had other plans for the day and needed to churn something out by lunch time

If it was a blink song, it'd be one of those awful Neighborhoods tracks, which this new album has just blown out of the water, so who cares!

I'm on board with this. I can't say I agree with everyone's rationale about the love for the Untitled record being misplaced.

Of course timing has something to do with it; that's every record. But I feel MUCH more strongly that timing is the only reason I like Enema and TOYPAJ. I can appreciate what they are and why I got into them, but nowadays I only listen to them for nostalgia. I genuinely still enjoy the Untitled record for all kinds of reasons even though it is 13 years old.

And no, it wasn't my transition into any other types of music or first time I appreciated an "experimental" album (even AFI had beaten them to the punch earlier that year with Sing the Sorrow). I have always loved that they tried some darker and more clever songwriting while never NOT sounding like blink. Every song was still catchy but didn't stick to the standard pop punk structure. Sure, things like Obvious being down-tuned, Stockholm Syndrome not starting on the 1, Easy Target and All of This essentially being the same song, etc. were cool, but they didn't get so ambitious that they alienated fans of the previous albums; they walked that line perfectly IMO and I don't care if there are other bands out there that have done it better. I still love it.

The music to Home is Such a Lonely Place has a Sun Kil Moon vibe to it. Just dawned on me.

He restrained himself to 30 seconds, and not three minutes of noises? Idk that is pretty progressive for Tom lol.

That's one perspective. Not sure I agree considering the 3-4 chord pop-punk song is right in Hoppus' comfort zone. That's clear from his production work and the +44 LP. I think there were experimental segments of Dogs Eating Dogs that didn't fit, or came off as aimless, because DeLonge pushed the band towards the worst parts of Angels & Airwaves. But I also don't think it's wrong to want bands to refine their craft and I don't see a whole lot of that on California. I see consistency, which is fine/fun/enjoyable, but I don't see growth. She's Out of Her Mind is a huge stand out for me, great hook, but let's not pretend we haven't heard that kind of song before. Give me a sonic or lyrical twist, or at least an alternative to that Bauhaus line.

A more apt view might be that Hoppus is finally comfortable taking LEAD on a blink-182 record, which is probably not something he's done since TOYPAJ, and definitely a challenge/difficult thing to feel confident about.

There are so many little moments on this record I like after 4 spins. The "oh yeah" Matt sings on "She's Out of Her Mind" for instance is one of my favorite things.

Hey @Jason Tate, "Sober" sounds like it was produced by Butch. I know it wasn't, but the way it sounds, feels like it certainly could have been. Has some touches of his production style all over it. No coincidence since Patrick Stump had a hand in the song.

there is a reason the blink albums stuck with you while others did not! I hate this whole timing argument. It's like people are a little ashamed for loving blink and need to created a justified reason the band means so much to them - give me a break

Holy fuck, I Love "Left Alone" so much. That is the immediate favorite. However, the album as a whole is a serious winner for the band. Skiba really kills it, and the singles all sound so much better in the context of the album. I'm so happy with this. Seriously feels like they included influences from every single previous release, and yet still sound fresh enough to be looking forward.

  22. "Sober" could easily be a country radio anthem and I love it for that!

There is a reason.... It's because of when they hit you, i.e. timing. C'mon now, don't be obtuse. I don't think it's difficult to see this phenomenon occurring.

No one's ashamed for loving Blink. In fact, Jason (and maybe others) is the one saying these songs will be hits, while you're trying to draw a weird line in the sand between these songs and their earlier work, a line that in reality doesn't exist.
