Have I said on this site yet that I hate the Watchmen film for doing a horrific job of capturing what made the comic great?

    'Cause I do.

I love the way he shoots action, and in particular with the way the action was with MoS. The fight scene with Faora at the gas station and the F-16s and helicopters is one of my favorites, and then one you mentioned was really awesome too. I expect nothing less with BvS in regards to that department, and since he is doing both Justice League movies, I'm sure there will be a lot of cool scenes like that.

For anyone who doesn't have tickets yet: Verizon is doing a thing for customers where through #WhyNotWednesday to get free tickets through Fandango. I just got two free tickets. If you check Verizon's Twitter the link should be there (you don't actually have to upload an image or anything, just go and put your phone number in) or I think you can just go to whynotwednesday.com

From what I can remember Watchmen was visually stunning, again his composition of shots is great, but my god what a boring film.

  11. I think I've enjoyed at least parts of most of them. There's a style and way of shooting, especially some action scenes, that I really do think is impressive. I walk out of a lot of his movies thinking "damn that was pretty" but not having much else. Not having an emotional connection or arc to the film. That's not to say the movies that do put that into the film (at this point, you can almost see how transparent Marvel is about adding that storyline in their movies) are better, it's that there's something that goes a little deeper with the characters. Something that brings the music, visuals, story telling, and characters to life that I think he misses. Some may say what is missing is a lens to humanity itself, and he's a cynic behind the lens and that's reflected, but I dunno if that's it. I don't think he has a good feel for what makes a story great and thinks if it looks great that's good enough, and that there needs to be someone at the top with the power to say no and make big cuts before things ever get filmed. To be able to read a script and know if it's ready at the pure story level before getting into any of the actual filming and CGI and stuff like that.

I dunno, I think yeah, I'm entertained by some Snyder films, and I've replayed parts of them over and over again (300 has some stuff, MoS has some amazing battle scenes, Watchmen has some really cool stuff with Rorschach that I think look ripped directly from the comic, and even Suckerpunch has some really interesting ways of shooting the violence) but I never feel that inclined to watch them multiple times.

I think he comes across like a wank in interviews, but I at least do respect his eye for a lot of shots. I like that it's distinctive. That there's style, mood, and that he's willing to try different things. I really feel like he needs a better editor and producer. And that whoever does his PR fucked up so badly. Like, we're at the point where the internet will cheer when he's not involved anymore — almost on name, and his shitty attitude, alone.

At this point I'm in the give everything to Edgar Wright camp. Let him do it all! (Keep Silent Bob away.)

Semi-related, but I really want to see Edgar Wright do more action, especially after Scott Pilgrim and The World's End. He has a great eye for it

  13. I've become obsessed with everything he does lately, it kills me he's not first on everyone's call list.

Edgar Wright is so, so, so great, and the fact that Marvel tried to neuter him on Ant-Man in favor of something safe really sours me on their whole machine. That's why I have mixed feelings about Ryan Coogler on Black Panther, especially since Ava DuVernay couldn't see eye-to-eye with them.

Completely agree. Does seem like a good majority of people cringe when they hear his name is attached to a project. WB must have some faith in him, or something, since he's doing both the Justice League parts one and two as well.

  18. At this point I feel like the political pressure to drop him will be strong. I wouldn't be that shocked if they do that some how. Give it all to Ben? Curious what they do going forward. I hope Bats, WW, Flash, all have good movies at least.

Him being attached to JL is frustrating. If this movie doesn't turn out well, we can pretty much expect the same for the two big event movies to follow, with the only hope for change resting on the characters.

I saw this yesterday, here's some not well thought-out thoughts as per @Tim's request.

I didn't really like it. It was overloaded, dragged at times, and Eisenberg's Luthor felt like he was in an entirely differently movie, and was often a little uncomfortable to watch. And the plot wasn't always easy for me to get a hold of. Someone on the AP thread compared it to the convolutedness of ASM2 and I thought that was pretty apt. So, it's maybe a C- at most

I would do anything to see George Miller's Man of Steel 2. Doesn't look like it's happening with Miller's producer role on JL and of course upcoming Mad Max projects, which I'd probably prefer get made over a Miller Superman movie, but man, what in the world would he do with that character?

I'd love to see a director with a brighter, more optimistic aesthetic take over Superman going forward. Not that I'd necessarily want it to be a comedy, but Phil Lord and Christopher Miller would be my go-to's for literally anything. Brad Bird jumps to mind because of the Iron Giant. I didn't see Tomorrowland but his Mission Impossible was solid live action stuff. I wouldn't mind seeing the Wachowski's version of Superman onscreen, though they'd definitely be a polarizing choice.

I'm very curious if they would do that, or at least for part two. I believe part one is in pre-production and starts filming soon, considering it comes out next November. Haha I'm sure there are a lot of instances out there, but seems like it might be chaotic to drop the director right before the start of production. I'm sure a lot of these future decisions is going to hedge on how well the film does at the box office this weekend, despite being critically acclaimed (at least right now).

I will say that Edgar Wright's Ant-Man would have been a much better film, and I want to see him actually do a superhero film in his way, BUT his version of Ant-Man had even less Wasp. So there's that.

Less than zero Wasp? She literally just finds the suit :-/

    Still really like Ant Man

"Lilly explained that she approached Rudd while he and McKay were working on their draft and asked 'hey, why don’t you beef up my character?' The result is that Hope gets a larger arc in Reed’s movie, along with some 'physical stuff' that wasn’t in the Wright and Cornish draft."

How Would Edgar Wright's Ant-Man Have Been Different?
