Fire Escape is easily my favorite from this album. And it’s such a fun live song too

I have to say something about Birthday Song. It's probably my favorite song on the album but this line in the last chorus always bothers me: "Come back to earth, kid, don't you know you're not a kid anymore?" If you're not a kid then why did you just call yourself kid? ahhhhhhh

 

I always read that song as him talking to his former self AND his current self. So, both things can be simultaneously true.

The last two songs on this album really gesture to where he went on Upside Down Flowers. "Birthday Song" and "Teenage Rockstars" make so much sense lined up with one another.
