Nice. I like those. Will the road jerseys have the dark blue though? That’d be weird.
The Pens transitioned a few seasons ago from gold back to yellow. And their home colors were different from away colors and it was odd.

I’m rewatching a condensed version of the Eagles @ Cowboys game from last year and the 4th quarter is crazy. At the beginning of the quarter, it was 6-9 with Cowboys leading but the Eagles were inside the 25-yard line about to score and the game ended up going to overtime with the Cowboys winning 23-29, haha. 37 points scored in about twenty minutes. And all for the NFC East crown, essentially.

Praying we can lock them up this offseason. Next would be Zeke, Smith, and then possibly Jones but those can wait til next season.

you arent going to be able to sign all of them I would think. Just not feasible.

If not, Jones is definitely the odd man out.

Good. Without Jones maybe you guys can build a winning team.

    I'm guessing he's been traded...?

"In 2012, Drew Brees became the highest paid QB in the league at $20M/year, about %16.5 of the 2012 salary cap.

In 2019, Russell Wilson became the highest paid QB in the league at $31.7M/year over 5 seasons, about %16.5 of the 2019 salary cap."

Just read this on reddit and damn, it really puts these QB contracts into perspective. Only 7 years and the going rate for an elite quarterback has gone up $10 million a year but stays the same percentage wise.

How much has the cap gone up since 2012? Surprised that the % for the contract (per year) has stayed the same. In a way, QB’s haven’t made any progress in getting more money vs what the cap is. Super interesting.

$120 million then vs $188 million now.

Bonuses and guaranteed money is where the real ebbs and flows are though.

Yeah, Kirk Cousins having an entirely guaranteed contract while not really being a top 10 dude is not something that would have happened in 2012.

Also, if you go by cap hit, in 2012, 5 of the top 20 cap #'s were QBs (Peyton, Vick, Bradford, Rivers, Ryan). In 2019, the top 6 are all QBs, as are 16 of the top 20. Meaning the guy who isnt even the 20thth best QB (since Mahomes, Wentz, etc are on rookie deals) is making more than a top 5 defensive player in the league.

Now that puts it into even better perspective! Great post.

I imagine we emerge from the lockout with fully guaranteed contracts.

If that’s what they really go for I would expect at least one year without football lol

I do think they might go in on the franchise tag though

They've gotta make some kinda compromise with the players. If they don't make it fully guaranteed, I'd imagine it'd be close.

the owners are absolutley never going to go for that

I can't imagine any good faith argument why the franchise tag exists. No other sport has it. They have other mechanisms to encourage people to re-sign. The only use of the franchise tag is to limit players financial agency.

I think you may be under the impression I'm saying keep the numbers the same. Instead of 5 @ 157 for Wilson it would just be 5 @ 107m. Maybe a bit more but usually about that.

I agree but I just think the players union are gonna fight damn hard to make it better for the players. I have no idea how though lol

I could see it become more and more common for the truly elite players since Cousins (of all people, lol) was able to do it. But he was an actual free agent, so maybe it will only effect them and not players who are extending contracts on the team they're currently playing on.

    The franchise tag is boogus.

I feel like the NFL contracts are the best. They promote guys keeping performance up to earn the non-guaranteed years and, when teams get into cap nightmares, it supports parity by sometimes pushing talent out to other teams. The franchise tag and draft tagging are things that could be adjusted or removed to let players get a better market going during their best years.
