Giannis had a great game but he’s gotta fix his FT shooting. 5/12 doesn’t matter when you win by 65 but he can do better than that.

Why does Vlade covet Luke Walton so much? Is there any evidence that he's a better coach than Joerger in any way other than personability?

 

I think it's reasonable to wonder if he could be good, he did help develop kuzma, Ingram and hart, made randle look good enough for that big Pelicans deal. Maybe it's as simple as they thought joerger was way too hard on the players & think Luke is the opposite. Or they just like him as a dude and know he'll be loyal to the fo.

 

I thought they would really push to get the Spurs assistant guy before they settled for Walton at least

 

Gobert is the most overrated defensive player in the NBA

 

Idk if I should laugh or not....

 

It's a number of things, I think.

1) He has a track record of coaching an up-tempo offense which is what we want to do, and for getting his guys (especially the youngins) to perform on defense which is something we desperately need. The Kerr tutelage definitely helps his case for us as well, in his presser today he said they're going to be shooting "a lot" of threes which despite being near the top of the league in 3P% they didn't do this season.

2) The personality bit is real, seems like Dave didn't mesh with not only the FO but also the players which even with all the tactical ability in the world is a tough sell on a young up and coming team.
You could see it down the stretch when we were still in the playoff race and we just kind of fell apart at the end of close games, especially that Warriors game where Dave blew up at buddy after making a long three instead of running the offense.

3) Vlade and Luke have a close existing relationship that in Luke's words today "would normally take years to build," having been teammates in 04-05, and I think Vlade wanted that kind of situation with his coach.

 

Yeah but also what evidence is there Luke Walton is a good coach?
