I got no objection to reducing congressional pay down to $30k a year.

I'm somewhat surprised to read that from Chomsky.

    I read back of few
He said the same thing with Kerry and Obama. The argument goes that both parties have a substantial amount of things upon which they agree; however, if there is even slightest sliver of difference, it is important to vote for the one that is less harmful, that may yield some concessions. On the whole, it is a mechanistic and simplistic analysis. There is no sense that one must create a rupture, or assist in expediting the degeneration of the Democratic Party; rather, it is characterized by perpetual waiting for something to happen.

in a really overgeneralized way of understanding, is the UK leaving the EU like a state separating from the United States?

No. "America" functions as an overall identity across fifty states. The EU is more of a confederacy of independent states that have committed to treaties with the union as a part of their membership.

Neocons 4 Hillary is picking up steam!

Prominent neoconservative intellectual and early promoter of the Iraq War is headlining an official campaign fundraiser for Hillary Clinton next month, Foreign Policy has learned. The move signals a shift in the Clinton campaign’s willingness to associate with prominent Republicans and is the latest sign of how far some GOP defectors are willing to go to block a Donald Trump presidency.

Robert Kagan, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and a co-founder of the Project for the New American Century, will speak at a Hillary for America fundraiser in Washington’s Logan Circle neighborhood on July 21. According to an invite obtained by FP, the “event will include an off-the-record conversation on America’s continued investment in NATO, key European allies and partners, and the EU.”

The Clinton campaign has made clear it believes Trump’s high unfavorable ratings and provocative comments have created an opening for her candidacy among traditional GOP voters, and will soon begin actively courting the Republican electorate.

    ...

“I feel comfortable with her on foreign policy,” Kagan told the New York Times in 2014. “If she pursues a policy which we think she will pursue it’s something that might have been called neocon, but clearly her supporters are not going to call it that; they are going to call it something else.”

In more recent years, Kagan has loudly criticized the Obama administration for not intervening more forcefully in the five-year civil war in Syria or pushing back more aggressively against Russia in the Ukraine conflict. He routinely calls for defense spending to take up a larger share of the federal budget. Many of his beliefs were encapsulated in his New Republic cover story “Super Powers Don’t Get to Retire” advocating for an expansive U.S. diplomatic and military presence around the world.

To be clear, I wasn't being dismissive. It just was pretty brief and he was echoing earlier claims he's made. At one point, I emailed him about his terrible characterizations of the Bolsheviks. He hadn't read the book I suggested, so he didn't feel confident about talking about my sources.

In my perfect world it would be an affirmative check. You have to pass an exam and be considered healthy and cognitively sufficient to drive a car; I'd do something similar with regular check in periods and limits on number of guns (I'd ban certain types), limits on ammo, and insurance.

To be fair members don't work 8 hour days. Not to mention DC is expensive and they have to maintain two homes and travel. Yes, it is certainly a lot of money, but I don't think it's unreasonable given the demands of the job.

Yet another historic example of leftism, even in its most sensible and pragmatic presentations, getting its teeth kicked in by racism.
