Yeah I'm a half hour drive from a nuclear power plant and I've never really thought twice about it

I have been hyping this black hole picture up for weeks, and everyone I know, my wife included, thinks I am nuts. I've been texting the pic to everyone this AM, and the response has been basically like 'that's so blurry' or 'can't they focus it better???'

This reminds me of that meteor over Chelyabinsk in 2013 - I was talking about what a big deal it was at work when it happened, and everyone kept giving me shit about how shooting stars happen all the time. They were calling me ‘Asteroid’ for a while about it haha.

I sent a picture of it to my 55 member team on our Slack chat group at work, and got just one person who commented back......sigh......

I feel like the people who worked so hard on it for like 10 years would be so crestfallen.

The scientific ramifications of the black hole pic have already been and will continue to be so huge that all the people tweeting “it’s blurry” about a picture of something 80 million fuckin light years away is physically harming me

Most people seem to just not care about space stuff anymore.

  12. i get why you'd feel that way but I'm sure they don't care, anyone working on astrophysics or whatever has to be used to people's eyes glazing over when they start talking about their work. everyone who does care surely understands how important it is

Why two former Beto O'Rourke staffers now say they're with Bernie Sanders
Sadly, this is why Beto's support in Texas is so great. Why Beto doesn't realize he could run for Senate and beat Cornyn on his "strengths" but for a national campaign, surely he can't have this "bipartisan" appeal across the country. :-|

To be honest, I was a little taken aback by the black hole photo.

I always just assumed when we finally saw one, it would look a lot more like Carmelo Anthony or Kobe.

If Alex Jones and infowars have been banned from twiter/YouTube, why is prison Paul still allowed?

  18. I wonder what the deadline would be for Beto to drop out the presidential race and then hop into a last minute senate race. Obviously it depends on polling and primaries, but let's say it becomes clear that he isn't going to become the presidential nominee by early 2020, can he switch over and run for senate then? Maybe that's a stupid idea

I read something a while back that in Texas and a select few other states (LBJ Laws) you can run for VP or Pres while also running for Senate.

Analysis: Texas has a two-for-one option for Julián Castro and Beto O’Rourke
