I don't consider it the same I guess given the historical oppression and sexualization of women. Sex work is a thing because of the way women are viewed in society. Maybe if privileged groups were doing sex work at similar rates as minority groups I'd consider it similar but that's not the case. Like I get how u feel and of course that's ur truth and reality. I guess I do just look at it from how men view it and how it came to be a practice at all. We are sexualized pretty much from the get go and thru various institutions of society and then men purchase that from us and like I see the perspective of "i'lI use it to my advantage and get money" but I am still hung up on the fact that women are sexualized so much that men feel entitled to pay for our sex and time like that in the first place. Sex work is in demand because of how we're viewed in society and I guess I struggle with that aspect. We can try to take control and use that for monetary gain but like the root of the problem still exists and flourishes and it keeps being perpetuated that we are seen as products to purchase. And like no it's not our job as women to solve men's bs and fix their brains, but I guess at the end of the day it's all still being perpetuated whether we consent to it or don't

I genuinely don’t think sex work is a thing bc of how we view women in this society. The TYPE of sex work that is prevalent...maybe. But sex work in general is a thing bc people like sex, plain and simple.

People are literally always going to be using sex as a bartering or leverage tool in our society because it’s a commodity. Everyone wants it and not everyone can get it. There are so many shady ways of obtaining it (that many men do) So I guess I don’t see “purchasing it from a consensual seller” to be any more shady/problematic than what men are already doing to get laid. [obviously an important factor here IS that the seller is consensual]

I don’t think it has to be seen that way though.
Like I think men literally sexualize and objectify always, so I think offering and being willing to pay is actually the opposite of feeling entitled to it.
Men feel entitled to sexualizing women so they expect hooking up on the first date, or expect to be ‘repaid’ for footing the bill.
Expecting sex in exchange for money from a sex worker is just expecting the exchange of goods and services ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Like, if you see a Chinese person on the street you don’t feel entitled to them making you Chinese food. But if you went into their Chinese restaurant of course you can feel entitled for Chinese food in exchange for your money.

I don’t think WE are seen as products to purchase, but SEX is.

Also for what it’s worth although I KNOW the majority of sex workers are women/marginalized people, I also know someone closely who was a straight man doing it for the money. And I can definitely say he had no shortage of clients. I view him selling his goods and services as no different than me doing it, even though there are obviously so many different societal and historical differences at play. At the end of the day we’re both making a choice about what we’re doing with our body.

I think all of it is worth considering and talking about though, like I’m happy to be reading your perspective and think on it

Lmfao. After the convo in here yesterday that sparked it, I got involved in a similar argument in a thread in a Facebook group last night. Add in my personal proximity to the topic and I gotta lotta thoughts and feelings!!!
And @Kiana is like the only persons opinion I respect on it
