Yeah I think that’s fair. I’m not exactly expecting Mark to know, I’m more just disappointed that the band still has such a big platform and that they could even have reached him. Even without the details that you might get from reading chorus, there were a LOT of people on Twitter at the time of the p4k article calling it out, specifically women, saying he was still a scumbag. It’s crazy that so many people ignored that.

Yeah I totally agree with all of that. It's mostly just like a general point about how people that are so high above the level that someone like Pinegrove operates on might miss the nuance or finer details about situations like this. Like, I could see a world where someone Mark knows showed him this track and he thought it was good and just tweeted it out not even knowing who Pinegrove is. But I could also see a world where he knows exactly what happened and thinks everything is cool because of the Pitchfork article.

It's like, there's separation here that isn't really present in something like the situation where Heart Attack Man was defending Better Off. Idk it's a weird topic. And people should absolutely be telling Mark why this isn't cool.

So I have an Instagram friend who is very “woke” (for lack of better word this early) and is very outspoken about abuser apologists and has zero hesitation to call people out for posting about problematic artists. But last night, he was posting a bunch with Dylan from TMP before their show and then a ton from the show. Am I overreacting for being really annoyed about that?

Does he know? If so, you're not overreacting.

I can’t imagine he doesn’t. I actually did just finally DM him and just said I was surprised he was supporting them. He said his nonprofit (for survivors) is on tour with them right now and that they’re doing some really cool educational work that they can’t announce yet. So I guess that kind of makes me feel better about it, and Dylan in general. But still a shitty situation to me.

Yeah I mean the situation with Dylan was super sketchy to me in the first place so I don't know what to think of that. And even if his organization is there in an educational capacity, why is he taking pictures with Dylan and posting them online? Kind of feels like a situation where I'd want to go to the shows, do my job, and get out of there.

Mark obviously has a very large platform and his name carries a lot of weight. I don't follow him closely but I would like to think that he wouldn't just blindly support a song or an artist without knowing much about them. Him 'promoting' a song or a band is a fairly large co-sign in my opinion. Not saying he knows the history, but kind of irresponsible of him to promote something he isn't fully educated on given his platform.

I mostly agree, but I also think this guy is really big on doing something positive and good after doing something shitty, and trying to right your wrongs. Which I get, I don’t like the automatic cancel culture we get sometimes, but I’m also just torn on Dylan still having a platform available.

He must have just deleted the tweet. It's gone now (it was there about 5 minutes ago). It was up there for about 10 hours.

I must have just missed it. Who posted the tweet and what did it say?

All I'm saying is, I know with absolute certainty I would still be listening to Pinegrove, recommending them to everyone I know, and posting about them on Twitter as well, if it wasn't for this website. And I'm nowhere near as busy/removed from this scene as Mark Hoppus. I think in situations like this it's better to try and have a dialogue/educate the person to see what their motivations were before we automatically assume they know everything and don't care.

And he took the tweet down so clearly someone got through to him about it.

And what I'm saying is, if you're going to push something out to 2.85 million people, you shouldn't do it blindly. Given the fact that he deleted the tweet, it is likely correct that he had no idea. So hopefully he learned a lesson that if he's going to co-sign something, given his platform, he shouldn't do it lightly.

Last night, Mark Hoppus tweeted out a link to a Pinegrove song. I don't remember what he said in the tweet other than the link. It was up for about 10 hours and he just deleted it a few minutes ago.

Tweet just said like “This is a jam”. I’m glad he deleted it, that’s the right thing to do.

Speaking of accountability in music, how come this website is still posting news about With Confidence?

I don't remember the girl who came forward clarifying that nothing happened, do you have any sources for that? Genuinely curious to see if she came out and clarified that nothing actually happened

Yeah I also did not see anything from the alleged victim about clarification that nothing happened.
