Yeah they are fake lol, he’s part mocking those online pranksters that go way too far, part just trying to bait gullible people. If you look at the profile pics of his parents they are just pics of him dressed up/with an old filter!

But nobody is genuinely confused about it -- it's about as straightforward as you can get -- nor under an impression that they're the target audience. To see people finding it annoying or embarrassing then drawing the conclusion that it's because they've never seen something that's intended for a different audience is really bizarre
