what is a common market?

 

Common Market 2.0 is essentially a trade and customs union between the UK and the EU - it's basically keeping the economic status quo as much as possible after Brexit. It's the softest of soft Brexits.

What does a soft Brexit mean?

 

What is the point of it for EU, didn't they want to make it economically harsh so other countries wouldn't leave? And what does Britain get out of brexiting then if they'd still just be the same old economic situation?

So Trump is attempting to hold the country hostage with a super wonderful medical plan that will only be implemented if he and the Republicans win an election 19 months from now? Sounds about right.

 

It prevents a disaster scenario in Ireland and gets Brexit over with basically. It's sort of based on the terms Norway operates on right now. It's not ideal for the EU but they're not being *that* punitive. It probably also wouldn't be exactly the status quo - mostly, but different enough to be felt in the UK.

As for the why the UK would go for it, basically to do Brexit - to honor the referendum - while minimizing damage. The UK was never going to 'get anything' positive out of Brexit, economically, this is really a political move to minimize economic damage.
