I can connect to anything so I love animation.

Plus it's easier to connect to animation than like...John Stamos trying to convince me his heart is broken. I can separate animation from its respective voice actor. I can't separate John Stamos from who he's trying to be as much, I can see it's fucking John Stamos.

But I can connect to either in the end. I just don't see how it's so much harder.

I can read plot lines and the script from Bojack and get more emotion out of that with my imagination or putting myself in his shoes than I can while watching it.

I really don’t want animation to become life like because that is not for me. The realism in Frozen 2 trailer was freaking me out.

    Nope. Supporter

Wreck It Ralph 1 is the best animated movie of this generation imo

I generally do find animation movies provide a lot more emotion for me than most real life movies.

like I can only think of Moonlight and Love, Simon as movies that had me emotional leaving the theater.

meanwhile in animation I could name at least 5 or 6 movies that made me emotional.

As usual I'm the one guy not vibing with this beat haha. I think actors are a lot more convincing than cartoons. But everyone's opinion is valid

Honestly if though BoJack was a human IRL and not a horse-human cartoon we'd all say "fuck that guy I don't feel bad for him, he only has empathy for himself" hahah so maybe the imagination does stir emotion

Do you think people who enjoy watching Bojack Horseman aren't saying "fuck that guy"?

I watched that new Mark Duplass/Ray Romano movie Paddleton on Netflix and balled like a baby. Almost all my crying from a movie is simply tearing up and not actually crying, but this one had me dropping multiple tears for a few minutes.

Maybe I'm overly critical but for me most of the emotional catharsis in this show comes from people telling him he's an asshole and him finally letting his calloused walls down for a second to hear the criticism

Which is why, while it's a funny and creative show, I don't get all that much emotional appeal from it. Cause like, the whole time you're watching like "of course he's a self centered asshole and he takes till now to realize it". Kinda, obvious setup imo and it's hard to feel emotional / dramatic about that

There is SO much going on in the show. It's hardly completely centered around him and people who watch are hardly his allies. If that's all the emotional catharsis you're getting you're missing a lot.

He doesn't "take till now to realize it". He knows it from the very start and it's very obvious he knows from the very start. What have you actually watched?

Maybe I just have a sour taste in my mouth because my band's old drummer was disgustingly narcissistic and watched the show voraciously because he felt he could relate to BoJack

To me that sounds entirely like the case hahaha, it sounds like you're just regurgitating him, not the show

I'm not gonna be a "WATCH BOJACK OR DIE" guy or any shit like that, I get that it's not for everyone, but I just wanted to make it clear that's not at all the only focus of Bojack and that if that was something that kept you from watching it maybe you should revisit it sometime

I'd say Bojack's depression, self loathing, and/or self destructive actions are probably the aspects some people relate to the most.
