    The rivalry is back on

It definitely does, but the Eagles’ context doesn’t change depending on whether or not the Browns do well with those picks

The Browns’ context does change depending on whether or not they do well with those picks, so you’d judge them based off of that. But not the Eagles

Yeah I just don't see it that way, which is fine! What they do with the picks absolutely has everything to do with how the trade is evaluated, imo, that's the compensation for it! There is no value behind a draft pick unless it was used properly. There are no winners/losers of a trade until enough time has passed that you can evaluate it.

Im sorry dudes. I just feel like “yeah Cleveland got a bunch of terrible players while Philly got Wentz, but that was still a good trade though” is asinine

It’s a straw man that has no bearing on what actually happened

Again, the only player that was an explicit guarantee was Carson Wentz. The only that matters is how HE turns out. The rest of the picks are valued as picks.

If Cleveland stayed put they might not have drafted Carson Wentz. Only if we know EXACTLY who the Browns were originally planning to draft there can we actually compare player-to-players and get a net value of a trade.

Because the players Cleveland drafted WERE NOT PART OF THAT TRADE

For what it's worth I still think Philadelphia won the trade. They won a Super Bowl due to a MVP caliber season from the player they traded for (yes, they traded for a player, not a pick, whereas Cleveland traded for picks).

But Randall is also wrong about this.

Not in theory but for all practical purposes yes they were.

How about a different example: Amari Cooper last year for a 1st. When it happened everyone said the Raiders made out like kings and the Cowboys were idiots, but in the end Cooper completely turned around our season and potentially saved Dak as well.

The initial trade was a win for the Raiders regardless of how Cooper did for us. But since he did amazing for us, it was a win/win trade.

Who the Raiders eventually draft with our pick has no bearing.

Hindsight is not accurate if you don’t use ALL the context and selectively stop at what we THOUGHT the trades value was gonna be

Lol in what way is a theory more important than what actually happens

We arent being selective. The trade ended years ago. Trade processed? Thats the end of it. Cleveland did nottake advantage of that. trade

It's not, but we're talking about the theory!

Like it's not more important! Obviously the Eagles did better with what they got and that's more important! But we're still talking about the theory and the net values of trades etc etc!

Jesus Christ can someone run over me

Let me give y’all another example, one that shows @Dinosaurs Dish is on both sides of this argument

We all thought Amari Cooper for a first round pick was bad for Dallas and we all think now that it was good

Gonna call it bad for the Raiders if the draft a kicker?

I was saying from the Raiders' perspective, it was a good trade regardless of how Amari did with us.

I would say the value of draft picks in a draft is a “projected value” that is subject to change. If I was a company selling draft picks I’d put that asterisk

I can't keep arguing, Randall please take a walk or take an hour to breathe or something so we can come back to this but it's just going in circles nonstop and I just can't deal with it today

Well that is how I will judge the Raiders on the overall series of moves. Making one potentially good move in a series of bad ones doesn’t need to be retroactively given credit.
