Why not just have another referendum, so the people can finally vote like they should have the first time, to reject leaving

it's gonna be elections or no deal. they've rejected every deal - they've also rejected no deal, but no deal is what happens if nothing happens, so it doesn't matter how they vote on it - and they've rejected a second referendum. eventually the EU will stop offering extensions and they'll go out on the backstop. or they'll have an election and the EU will give an extension for that, and then the parliamentary arithmetic will change and who knows what'll happne

 

Well, that's what she was betting on---that everyone hates her so much that they'd Brexit just to get rid of her

 

no deal pretty much guarantees the reunification of ireland so let's all hope the brits continue to be incompetent for another 14 days (they will)

If Ireland did end up reuniting, that'd be huge; never thought I'd see that happen in my life

 

Ireland would probably be reunited within 10 or 15 years anyway just by demographic changes in the north

Is there still tension between the North and South of Ireland, or is it Britain that gets in the way of reunification?

I have some coworkers from the north and I haven't sensed any tension from them based on some stories of them going to the pubs in the south, but I know that doesn't indicate the overall population.

I'm pretty ignorant to the subject and only know stories of how things used to be in like the 80s from my grandfather

 

I assume he'd slot TX into the same place he has Ohio/Iowa in that mini thread, aka they are red states at this point, maybe with some possible variability if everything goes right for the Dems.

 

I saw Arrival in theaters and it confused the hell out of me. But it was a few days after Trump won the election so my brain was already a mess and that kept coming back into my mind during the movie lol so that is probably part of why it was so confusing to me

 

If TX goes blue and Florida doesn't that would be interesting.

There's no animosity between north and south, but there is tension between the north... and the north.

The Good Friday Agreement was brought in during the 90's to end the Troubles and states that the north could choose to reunite with the south or stay in the United Kingdom via a referendum.

Up until now there hasn't really been any reason for a referendum to be held, but a No Deal brexit causes a lot of problems between the north/the U.K. and the south seeing as the south is still in the European Union.
