I totall understand that. My relationship age difference really didn’t and doesn’t currently show, otherwise we wouldn’t be able to get past that. But I can completely see how different that can be per experience.

 

Hey, if it works it works. And honestly, I'm biased. I do find it considerably more troubling when it's an older guy and a younger girl, due to personal experiences and what I've witnessed. Just want to be clear my post was inspired by the last two pages of discourse, not your personal testimony! Not coming for you or your relationship by any means.

My parents were four months apart, got married at 21 (DEFINITELY shouldn't have happened) and now the world is saddled with me mouthing off on the internet.

 

I'm 30 and my girlfriend is 24, we just met last year, the best part of our relationship is her generation is much more socially aware and sensitive to things my generation (at least white people in my generation) have been insensitive to. What she has taught me and been passionate about has completely changed my view on the world.

Depending on when birthdays are and when grade cutoffs are, she could have been a freshman and he could have been a junior, so only 2 grades apart which may also not have made it seem weird to them at the time. And while the tweet is gone, I think I remember reading that they only went out for a few weeks. To me this seems like a harmless short high school relationship, based on the few facts we've seen. While it definitely can raise some eyebrows, I agree with the fact that this shouldn't 'cancel' the band or him.

 

Yeah. I was 17 for my entire junior year, and have been 18 since before senior year started. Some people are still 17 in my grade.

It has been revealed that those claims about rape were a “joke”.

 

I think it's because there's about a thousand different nuanced conversations needed about a topic like this before someone can fully comment on this specific scenario with her. I've seen a lot of conversation on it around the internet, but the majority of it is racist and/or sexist dickheads. It's definitely not a simple situation to dissect and discuss.

My thoughts.

1. Drugging people for any reason without their knowledge/consent is abhorrent, full stop.
2. Per your last post, he's saying the sexual assault claims (or his being a victim in general?) were a joke and I'm whatever comes after disgusted about it.
3. I'm a woc but I'm not a sex worker and I'm not a black woman so I don't believe I have the tools to navigate this particular conversation past saying "I will never be okay with drugging people" and neither does anyone else who isn't, either.

 

Not to mention the double standards of the online reaction to women doing bad things versus men doing bad things, especially in the hip hop scene.

 

Yeah assuming coconsentual sex isn't an issue for anyone else, I'm not really up in arms about it. I don't think there's that much difference to doing that vs. selling crack or heroin or something else of a more violent nature.

 

The number of folks (mostly men, but there's a few pick-me's in there as well) trying to start a #SurvivingCardiB hashtag or saying it's just like Bill Cosby have left my damn blood boiling, especially since none of them actually seem to think R Kelly or Bill Cosby did anything wrong.

I don't know if the double standard in behavior or equating sexual assault with theft/female sexuality with property pisses me off more, but either way I'm mad.

They should just say they hate women and go.
