    @Nick

    I’d go with

Death’s Human, Symbolic or Sound of Perseverance

might seem at first that it is not exactly what you’re looking for but I think there’s a good chance you will love these

proggy without getting to the point of wankery (maybe a little bit here & there), melodic, fast, heavy & catchy

    not doomy at all tho

Symbolic was a good gateway into death metal for me, like Horrorca said it’s progressive but very digestible

I’m new to doom but Khemmis, Spirit Adrift, and (mostly) Magic Circle all out our great records that are all pretty catchy

    Oh, and Type O Negative

Honestly if you like BTBAM you might enjoy the Alkaloid album from last year. Pretty proggy and very death-y. Not as wanky as BTBAM but I find it a bit more refined:

I would second Khemmis and Spirit Adrift if you're into Pallbearer, might throw Baroness in there as well. Elder's album from 2017 was one of my favs, you should check that out too:

Just a few recs that fall in and near the stuff you recommended:

Astronoid - they just opened up for BTBAM on their last tour, and I think their sound falls perfectly within the realm you described. Airy, melodic prog with vocoded clean vox and some black metal underpinnings. The album I embedded there came out earlier this year and is pretty good, but I'm more of a fan of their last album, Air, which was a lot thrashier and more black metal driven to the point where they were given the moniker "dream thrash" which I always thought was a surprisingly accurate description

Alcest - more firmly in the black metal realm than Astronoid, but still pretty accessible compared to more "kvlt" black metal stuff. I'd definitely give Alcest a listen and work backwards from their latest album, Kodama, given your preferences.

The Human Abstract - more in the BTBAM realm of things, they're still proggy and shreddy but more straightforward than them. Their debut, Nocturne, is a good place to start and work forward from. They dig switch up vocalists to one of the dudes from From First to Last on their last album, and he did a surprisingly good job - though I still think I prefer the original vocalist.

Protest the Hero - also firmly in the more straightforward than BTBAM but still proggy metalcore, you can't really go wrong with any album that these Canadians have put out since Kezia. I'd start there and work your way forward.

Warning - DOOM. All I'm gonna say is that they're listed as the most similar artist to Pallbearer on Metal Archives so you probably should have an idea of what you're getting into.

Also gonna echo the Khemmis, Spirit Adrift, and Magic Circle recs if you've been digging a lot of Pallbearer recently. You can't go wrong with any of those three bands, but Khemmis is my favorite out of the recs mentioned.

    Happy hunting.

Instrumental drum and bass grindcore stuff out of Brooklyn. These guys always seem to bring the heat for me.

I'll check this stuff out but I wasn't asking for recs I was just confirming that Khemmis and Elder rule. Nonetheless, I'm always happy to find new music.

New Rammstein video is pretty intense; so much going on, haha. Seems like one giant commentary on the history of Germany. Song itself is typical Rammstein; nothing new

What is the band's history like, politically? This video is all over the place and I can't tell if its a criticism or what.

They've always had videos that have had sensitive topics or images, sparking debate mainly within Germany itself, from what I can remember. The band has been fearless in tackling these topics, so this latest video isn't surprising. Not knowing the English translation of the lyrics, I can't tell exactly what they're trying to say, but just based on what we see, it seems they're trying to tackle the entire history of the country in some way, haha

I never knew a single song of theirs outside of Du Hast, and I don't even know what that means.

    a literal succubitch

Yep, I was just about to weigh in. Rammstein have always been a pretty loud left-wing group - their imagery is just so risque that it can often go over peoples' heads. I respect what they do, though, because unlike many others I actually believe that they're doing the topics justice and treating them with respect. Hell, Links 2 3 4 is an openly anti-fascist anthem, and a middle finger to their shitty right-wing fans.
