I would go as far to say any mind altering substances are not going to make it better.

I had an ex go through something similar.
She smoked, cigs and weed, and was a coffeeholic and drank alcohol often. We tried every combo of stop doing this, keep doing that and nothing worked short of quitting it all.

Even Benzo’s and SSRI’s made the panic attacks worse. (Though talk to doctor about stopping, because some people do need these meds, and this is only relevant to our situation ).

I will say, it may or may not work lol. For instance the spray bottle did teach my cat he’s not allowed on the coffee table, but he does not care that we have to use it every time we eat in the living room, bc he doesn’t ever leave us alone unless you threaten to spray or spray.
But he is smart, like just holding up the bottlen is enough to send him running most times.

Yes. It’s sweet that you want to help. A lot of it will be on her, though.
She will have to really figure out what works for HER to control them, which honestly might take a while. *then* you can have a more clear direction of how to help. But in the mean time I agree, just being a calming presence and letting her lean on you and helping her breathe and stuff is a huge help.

When I’m having one, I learned what works for *me* is sitting down, preferably against a wall, preferably with air conditioning and then I just breathe until it passes. Now that I know that, I can communicate that so my SO could help me or know what I’m doing when I’m frantically searching for a quiet place to sit down lol

All of what @K0ta said is true too but I know you’re concerned about her caffeine intake. While yes caffeine certainly won’t help anxiety, plenty of people don’t give it up and still lead functioning lives. Just merely being mindful of the fact that it’s unhelpful (and will make it worse), is important.
